Charging to read papers online

Seems like more and more newspapers are doing that. Idaho falls who has a liberal editorial board did that in 2000. More recently the Twin Falls and Pocatello papers did after so many articles. Boise and Salt lake there papers don't do that yet. Why are more Papers charging for online? I guess advertising isn't enough yet and they lose revune with subscriptions.

I have yet to see a tv or radio station charge for online content. Though I would not be surprised to see that happen myself in the near future.

Newspapers have been hit hard given the shift from folks buying classified ads to simply using things like craigslist. Now apparently simply selling ads is not cutting it.
