Things that inspire you, give you faith in humanity.

If there is already a thread like this I'm sure someone will tell me, but I wanted to start a thread for things, people, ideas, quotes, events that are inspirational. It's not in the foyer because I want to be open to secular as well as religious things that inspire. Both are equally welcome though.

I'll start with this video that is making the rounds today, it seems not to be on Youtube yet so you have to click though. Get out the box of tissues before you do:

Over the weekend a young wrestler from a Middle School in Tennessee did something that a lot of kids his age would not think about doing. He intentionally lost a match, but unintentionally won the hearts of anyone that watches his actions in the video.

Again, if I've overlooked an obvious thread this should go in, just let me know.

Maybe it's better we start fresh.

                Seriously?

You're inspired by his implicit repetition of the lie that women earn less than men for equal work?

The lie? That has never been my experience.

Wasn't there a recent report that on Obama's own staff, women are typically paid less than men?

So...is this just Obama setting the stage for an attempt to change the constitution and get a third term? You know, so that he has enough time to pay his own staff more equally...

it is called a lie because when equal qualifications are taken into consideration pay gap between men and women is virtually nonexistent. How many of your colleagues make less than you because they are women? I can't think of one, in fact, all but one of my female colleagues that have the same qualifications as me are paid more than me. The remaining colleague and I make the same.

When you just lump all female pay and all male pay together, yes there is a large discrepancy, but I think when you compare apples to apples (same degree, same type of position) you see very little difference in pay. I've read an article about this, but can't find it right now.

I love this. Dr. King is talking about more than keeping faith in God,he is talking about doing right because it is right.

Obama ran on that proposition. It was all part of the War on Women.

Right. Female physicians earn something like 70% of male physicians. That's not because of discrimination, obviously, but because men and women (as groups, obviously not in individual cases) have different priorities when it comes to families, careers, etc. Nothing wrong with that.
