    Video Editing Software

I am looking at doing some rather simple video editing. Any recommendations for Windows software? I will not (at least at this time) be doing anything all that advanced, so I am looking for something in the free to $100 range. A lot of folks seem to like Sony Movie Maker, and then there are the old standbys such as Adobe Premier Elements and Pinacle. Anyone have any suggestions or preferences? Am I just as well off sticking with MS Movie Maker?

Thanks. I promise my next thread will be more interesting.

I use Adobe Premier Elements, but since it's the only one I've ever used, I can't say how it stands up to others. I payed $99.

If it's a how to video, I may be interested.

I'm interested in doing some editing. Clark, what did you settle on? Any recommendations? And old_gregg's recommendation of Lightworks looks good, as the online tutorials seem helpful. Any other recommendations, positive or negative?

I tried Lightworks, and for some reason didn't use it, though I don't remember why right now. I used Sony Movie Studio, which was easy enough to use and did what I needed it to. I am probably not the expert that you should rely on, though.

MS Movie Maker is great for something simple. Lightworks is also awesome.

Almost all of them are similar and use the same codecs for compression.
