  • My Mother and the Thermostat

I'm at my mom's right now, and she's becoming an old lady. She had the damned heat on when we got here, and it feels like an angry lover breathing on me in her house. It's 52F outside and 78F inside. I'm sweating.

I'm going to just go open the windows once she goes to bed. One of the main reasons I hate staying with people is that they get cold, and I do not. One of the greatest satisfactions of being a man and a homeowner is my ability to set the thermostat to something comfortable. I have a window unit in my home office so I can make it frosty in there when I'm working and not have to hear the complaints from the mortals.

I always freeze at church. I suspect it's because the thermostat is set by overweight geriatrics wearing woolen suits. If they had to wear skirts to church, I think they'd be singing a different tune. Not that women *have* to wear skirts to church, but skirts are distinctly breezier than a pair of slacks. A mandate of lava lavas and kilts for all dudes!

Anyway, as for our home we haven't had to turn on the furnace yet. The weather has been amazing.

My young son nearly always wears long shorts to church and I keep asking why I can't do the same. My wife always overrules.

Hey, it'd be cool with me. But I'm sort of over the Mormon dress code.

In honor of this I am going to wear my kilt to church on Sunday.

Not just elderly women keep there homes very warm. My FIL keeps his home at 78-79 degrees in the winter.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

In one ward I was in, we'd have guys wear Jeans with their shirt and tie, which I always thought was a good look. It threw me off when he finally started wearing suits. Perhaps the man go to him.

In my U of U student ward, flip flops worn by the men was all the rage.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Our RS room has a closet with a dozen or so knitted thingys that the women drape over their shoulders. They are truly hideous looking as I'm sure some 80 year old woman knitted them a decade ago, but I guess the women prefer warmth over style.

I usually just steal Mpfunk's suit jacket or wear tights/boots/scarf/coat. Or it's much warmer to wear dress slacks instead, but definitely garners some disapproving stares. I should just start rocking the leggings and UGG boots and mini skirt look. Warm and not remotely stylish!

I don't have the legs nor the money to buy a Clan McLarty (MacLaren) kilt, but if I did, I'd join you.....in authentic form.
