An excellent interview of Tiger. Really, the only interview I can ever think of not full of boring, rote answers.

If recovering [a body] from the bottom of Bushman's Hole was a feat of extraordinary ambition and danger, combining extreme depth with demanding work, Shaw and Shirley were just the guys to pull it off.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

Among my colleagues, it's basically me, the biology, math, chemistry, 1/2 the business people, and one phys ed prof who see this as truth. My BIO colleagues are getting grants from Monsanto while some of the SOC and COM and ENG folks are railing against GMO foods. I have countered with this: If 19% of all calories consumed in the world come from rice, what happens to the world population if some disease arises to destroy rice production? What are the geopolitical ramifications of having 1/3 of the world's population in two countries (India and China) that get roughly 1/3 of their daily calories from rice? Vietnam gets a staggering 52% of its daily caloric intake from rice, but that's down from over 70% in 1991 and earlier.Originally posted by cowboy View PostBTW, organic agriculture is the best way I can think of to rid the world of 2 billion people almost immediately.
There's not enough arable land in the world to have organic agriculture for all. If we want to go back to organic for all, then about 3-4 billion people need to die to make it sustainable. And, most of them need to die in the poorest nations, India, and China. Governments will not let that happen. GMO is here to stay and conventional methods will continue to be used for foods that feed the masses. Artisanal organic Minnesota black rice will not feed a nation of millions."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. I was going to ask how you came across a 10 year old article. That really was fascinating. I actually looked at records for deep dives since and expected a lot of progression given technological advances or something. But there really hasn't been much at all. I suppose the human body can only stand so much.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostYep. I stumbled onto that link via fb last night and was enthralled."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

I started sweating and feeling claustrophobic just reading this. Whatever gene, or size of cajones, it takes to do something like this, I don't possess it.Originally posted by Donuthole View Post

Though not really the focus of the article, I found this quote interesting:Originally posted by falafel View Posthttp://www.texasmonthly.com/articles...ted-mr-khater/

“The average psychopath will be convicted of four violent crimes by the age of forty. And yet hardly anyone is funding research into the science. Schizophrenia, which causes much less crime, has a hundred times more research money devoted to it. . . . Because schizophrenics are seen as victims, and psychopaths are seen as predators. The former we feel empathy for, the latter we lock up.”
