What a drag it is.
I was walking from truck to office building this morning when another car pulled into the garage with a CD playing an old Styx tune far too loudly. I recognized the tune as one my old band used to cover and I thought immediately how much I enjoyed it and turned to see who was listening to this song.
Turns out it is a 50 something year old woman with big hair and who was sort of puffy and paunchy looking. Not so hot, IOW. Just as I was about to think "she's old!" i reflected on my recent birthday, which nudged me as close as I can get to the half century mark without hitting it and I realized I am getting old too. I then remembered that my left knee is a little balky, my back hasn't been fresh for over 20 years and my laugh lines are now just wrinkles. All room to talk disappeared. Even so, on a warm, summery morning, Styx played loudly can still sound good.
Getting old is a drag but it is still better, as they say, than the alternative.
