I spent half of the day visiting the graves of a lot of dead relatives and the other half traveling.
It's a good time to remember those who went before us. I think my father was the only WWII veteran in the group and we forgot to bring along the little flags. My mother went back later and added flags to the grave.
We left flowers for my father, three grandparents, six uncles and aunts, and visited the graves of four great grandparents and a few other relatives from back a ways.
One thing we learned at the Murray City Cemetery is that if you don't know exactly where a grave is, it's likely faster to drop in the main office and have them show you on the map than to wander around looking at hundreds of headstones looking for a familiar one. My mother had never been back to her sister's grave (who died in 2004) because she wasn't sure where it was. It should be easy to find next time, though.

We spent Saturday wandering the Midvale Cemetary looking for my Dad's grandmother's grave. We also visited the West Jordan, the Larkin? Cemetary on 17th E 106th South, the "Cow Pasture" in Granite, at one time it acutally was a cow pasture, but they have now turned it into nice local cemetary, where my Dad's Grandfather is buried (the husband the Grandmother in Midvale - who supposedly said she wouldn't be buried in some cow pasture) and the cemetary just east of Brighton HS ( I don't know the name of it). Midvale finally put the flag on my Grandfather's grave after 30 years and I don't how may times we've asked about it.
Monday we went up to my wife's parents and my Mom's graves in Layton.
Also to all those who served I hope you had a very memorial Memorial Day - same to all the rest of you also
A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."
Marines I see as two breeds, Rottweilers or Dobermans, because Marines come in two varieties, big and mean, or skinny and mean. They're aggressive on the attack and tenacious on defense. They've got really short hair and they always go for the throat. RAdm. "Jay" R. Stark, USN; 10 November 1995
There are only two kinds of people that understand Marines: Marines and the enemy. Everyone else has a second-hand opinion. Gen. William Thornson, U.S. Army
Being ready is not what matters. What matters is winning after you get there. LtGen Victor H. Krulak, USMC
Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don't have that problem. Ronald Reagan, President of the United States; 1985

Met a pilot from Idaho who flew his M15 (I think) to the air show at Hill AFB. He was a small drink of water and shivered incessantly in his flight suit in the chilly wind. Didnt realize that flyboys are so tiny.
