  • SLC #10 on Amazon's List of Most Well-read Cities

    http://www.cnn.com/2012/05/16/living...html?hpt=us_t5

I thought that was pretty cool, considering the first few on there are Alexandria, VA, Cambridge, and Berkley. I kind of wish I was in a more well-read place, because I feel like Phoenix is a city of dumb asses.

"The rankings were determined by compiling the number of books, magazines and newspapers bought by Amazon customers in both print and Kindle format since June 1, 2011, and dividing that number by the city's population to determine the number of units sold on a per-capita basis, Amazon said..."

I would be interested to see the chosen reading material format to rank each location.

"Titles from the romance category were the most popular among Alexandrians, Amazon said in a statement announcing its second annual list of Most Well-Read Cities..."

I don't know that I would refer to anybody heavy into the romance novel genre as "well read." Not enough data in the article to draw any real substantial conclusions except that the residents in the locations spend money on books, newspapers or magazines.

Maybe it just means Utahns are too honest to pirate their e-books.

I wonder how much of this ranking is skewed by repeated downloads of "50 Shades of Grey"

I used to love Phoenix, but I can't stand it anymore. There are worse places to live, but I'll never move back.
