My daughter mentioned to me that there had been a recall of Excedrin and that you couldn't buy it anywhere. I was wondering about that, since I bought some just a month or two back. Sure enough, some stores had little signs where the Excedrin used to be indicating that it was temporarily off the market and the other stores just had empty slots where it was supposed to be. A bit of internet research showed that Excedrin, Bufferin, NoDoz, and Gas-X-Prevention had all been recalled by the maker, Novartis.
It looks like the original recall was issued way back in January and they want to get back any of those products with expiration dates before December 20, 2013 or 2014, depending on the product. That means everything on the market, because they haven't produced any after that date yet. Apparently there is a chance that some of the products may have a bit of Percocet or some other similar drug mixed in as well as possible broken pills.
I bought a bottle of CVS pain killer with the same recipe as Excedrin for my daughter, and I looked through all of the pills in my own bottle to make sure that they all have the little E's on them. I'm not sending mine back for refund or replacement, unless there is evidence that they somehow got Percocet ingredients into the caplets with the E's on them. Who knows, Percocet might be better at getting ride of a headache than Excedrin.
The big problem mentioned in one article was that if you thought you were taking Gas-X and took one of the other pills, there might be serious issues. Not as likely to be a problem with Bufferin or Excedrin.
As far as I can tell, nobody has found one of the wrong pills in any of these medications out "in the wild" so far. I guess after the Tylenol problems in 1982, the other drug makers aren't even taking the tiniest chances with their products.
So, anybody want to convince me to send back my own supply of Excedrin?
