Twenty bucks? We are talking a savings of $400+ for 7 people. Gotta save up if we want to afford our McMansion. Besides, I though $400k woudl be close to the median here for CUFers. At least according to Robin that is barely in the bottom end of the middle class . Actually, I think its a ton of money and I don't know how many people can afford it. I can't. Not really. But then again, it is only a $1,600 mortgage payment. It's the Oregon taxes that make it affordability.

Back to Disneyland...$400 savings is a lot. I can't even afford to go to Disneyland without the grandparents subsidizing the trip. Regular price for a 2-day pass is $168.

Question. Do to a combination of things, we did the annual passes last year. Those just expired last month and we won't be renewing but I'm sure will still look into going a couple of times a year. How do the multiple day park hopper passes work? You don't have to use them consecutively, correct? How long are they good for? Say I bought a 7-day pass, do I have a year to use them, i.e., break it into two trips?

My friend's family just got back from Disneyland. It was Oregon's school spring break. They were there last Friday, and it was apparently raining. Despite the poor weather, there were still 48,000 people in the park. Not Disneyland/California Adventures, mind you, just Disneyland.

Someone sells Secrets to Disneyland on ebay for $3.99. It's a PDF and covers things like perks for lodging in the park, magic morning, best pricing, best place to stand for Phantasm, how fast passes work and which rides you want to fast pass, etc. Pretty good deal.

Did you know that Disney sells out of its Phantasm/dessert package every night? You pay $59 for the privilege of watching Phantasm from a table at a restaurant whilst eating dessert. $59 for being able to sit for a 23 minute show. What a rip off.

48,000? That number alone means nothing to me. How does it compare to an average day?

I usually want dessert after a Phantasm, so that doesn't surprise me.

Good point. Per ask.com, the average daily attendance is about 40,000/day. I assume that spring break attendance is higher than that. The reference doesn't mention if the attendance includes both parks.

Even without that info, 48,000 in Disneyland on a bad weather day does not sound like my idea of a good vacation.

Ok, so you've all talked me out of Disneyland, but I think we may still hit SoCal. What would you suggest as fun activities/places for pre-teens and teens?

How to best use fastpass and parent swap? Any other tips? I'm headed there Monday.

I googled "Secrets to Disneyland" and got a bunch of good links. Thanks for the heads up. I might not buy the ebay thing but will use this for the future since we go to Disneyworld every year..

We were there the same weekend. It rained on Sunday like I've never seen it rain in LA. We arrived in a slow drizzle and noticed it hadn't deterred many people at all as it was packed. When the downpour came the place cleared out and we had the afternoon and evening with 5-10 min lines. We were among the few that apparently had checked the weather forecast and we brought ponchos/jackets and even a change of clothes.

Incidentally, I remember dozens of Oregon clad tourists that weekend so that would explain why.

A bit late on this I'm afraid, but this may prove useful in the future.
