Oxcoug, the Germanic - help me get an EU passport

So I've been toying w/ this idea for a while and have decided that 2012 is the year it goes down.

The key facts:

1. My grandparents on my dad's side were both German citizens
2. They left Germany originally in 1929 and moved to Toronto
3. They came back for three years in 1934 when my dad was 1 year old then left again in 1937 when my dad was 4 after my aggro Oma went off on a grocery store clerk who gave her a "Heil Hitler!" berating him that "I don't heil anyone but the Lord!!" - this made my grandfather very nervous and they used some of his merchant marine contacts to get out, first to Sweden and then back to Toronto.
4. My German language skills are poor - but the basics are in place and I can learn it quickly.

So..... how do we do this? I've been told that with grandparents that were German citizens and a father who was a resident of Germany that I won't have any trouble getting in... but I need to call a consulate/embassy and get a full assessment.

Any of you attorneys have any background on these types of deals?

Even with the EU economy about to get flushed, having access to a second employment market can't hurt.

Why do you need an EU passport for your line of work? Are you looking to change employment? Your gig seems pretty fun and interesting.

Nah - actually we're thinking about ways to internationalize a bit and if there were a chance to go launch an EU base of operations having an EU passport wld obviously be a plus for me.

But generally speaking I just like the idea....

Well, my Mexiwegian friend, I'm not asking to "be" German (though I already am partly ethnically so) I'm in search of an EU passport.... and it doesn't hurt that it would be from the one EU country that cld plausibly bail on the rest of them and still thrive.

Get in touch with your local German Consulate. They should be able and willing to determine if you're eligible and then walk you through the process if so.
