  • Headed to New York

I am headed to New York on Thursday to surprise my wife. She has been in Miami since the 4th for school and will be flying to New York on the 19th to visit her family. Her flight gets into LaGuardia at 715 and my flight gets into JFK around 430. My plan is to go to LaGuardia and meet her at the baggage claim and surprise her. It should be fun.

We will be flying back the 22nd, so not a very long stay. I have not been back there in about 4 years, since her stepfather died.

Anyways, looking for suggestions on what to to, places to see, eat, etc. for the couple days I will be there. I will be staying in Astoria with my MIL because the last time we went we stayed in a hotel and that offended her.

    Anyone have suggestions?

When I was working in New York the guys I used to work with would always say to call your wife on the way home from work. Finally I asked what that was about and they told us about a guy that worked with them who took the day off early to surprise his wife and came home to a surprise, his wife in bed with another man. So it turned into a running joke and their way of saying goodbye to one another.

It's Broadway week while you're there. 2 for 1 tix. Some shows are sold out like Lion King and Wicked. But there are plenty of others still available.

Here's a thread that I started back when I went to NY. This board gave some awesome suggestions which made for a fabulous trip.

One place I absolutely miss is the breakfast at Angie's in Hell's Kitchen. Very good bakery.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

        I'll stick to three recs:

Brunch: The Cupping Room Cafe in Soho (also good for dinner, but brunch is their thing)

Great, old school NYC Italian and affordable: Lil' Frankies at 1st Ave and 1st Street (just above Houston)

Favorite of favorites: Freeman's at the end of Freeman's Alley just off of Rivington (which is off of Chrystie).

It can't all be wedding cake.

Originally planned to stay at the MIL's place in Astoria. No way that is happening. Just booked The Benjamin in midtown for $110 a night. Not bad for a same night reservation. Hopefully it is nice. According to Priceline it is 4 stars.
