After 34 years, I'm visiting my sister tomorrow!

I last saw my half-sister 34 years ago when I was 9. I may have seen her before that but I can only remember meeting her once briefly when I was 9.

My father divorced her mother when she was 9 and then he barely saw her after that. He moved to another state and married my mother and basically abandoned his kids from his first marriage. Not complete abandonment, but nearly so. Then he died a few years after that.

My understanding is that she felt rejected and she blamed my mother as well (correct on both counts) and because of her hurt feelings, she didn't want any contact so I respected her wishes.

Now I think she's a recent widow and she's more desirous of family contact. We exchanged letters several months ago and now I'm passing through her neck of the woods, so we're (wife and 2 kids) visiting tomorrow.

I'm expecting it to be kind of weird, but I'm looking forward to it.

Awesome. Good luck to you. Hopefully, this will be the start of a good relationship for you, your family and her.
