Upgrading my Macbook (Questions)

So I am getting ready top upgrade my Macbook with the newest OS. But I am running on Mac OSX 10.4. So my Memory is small. I recently purchased the added RAM to be able to upgrade. Is it as simple as the youtube video's show to upgrade my RAM? Also my Hard Drive has all my documents etc so by updating mY RAM it will have not impact on my documents correct?

Just want to make sure before I do this. I also purchased a Time Capsule as well so I will be moving all my stuff off my laptop.. I am hoping this will help the speed of my Macbook which lately seems really slow along when using the internet..

Any advice would be helpful...

10.4? Really? You may not be able to upgrade to Lion (10.7). It requires a 64-bit Intel processor which I don't think was shipping in MacBooks when 10.4 was out. In short, lion doesn't run on older 32-bit hardware. In fact, if I recall correctly from memory, neither does Snow Leopard (10.6). The best you may be able to upgrade to is Leopard (10.5) which is still much better than 10.4.

Check the Apple Store refurbished stock for a deal on a new macbook.

When you talk about a 64 bit intel processor is that the Hard drive? What if I upgrade my hard drive to that. Then can I upgrade my OS? Yes. My Macbook is very old and still runs great so I never really thought about getting a new one. I was looking at the Macbook Air. thoughts??

Processor and hard drive are two different things. What Lebowski is saying is that you have almost reached the limit of how far you can upgrade that machine. Upgrading the RAM will help with speed. You may also want to consider upgrading your hard drive to a 7200 RPM drive or an SSD drive.

Will moving everything off my HD to the time capsule suffice without having to buy a new HD? Or is it better to just upgrade? Also, which is better 7200 or the SSD?

SSD if you can afford it. Those little buggers can be expensive. I've never used Time Capsule so I'm not sure how it works. When I change out a system drive I back up everything to an external drive and then start fresh.

2006 means it's probably a core 2 duo, meaning you should be fine.

Also, it looks like it has info on upgrading your RAM to the required 2GB.

Mine is a 2Ghz Intel Core Duo.. So I am guessing this means I cannot upgrade the the latest OS even if I added the RAM..

You could still upgrade to Leopard and add the RAM and larger/faster HD. That would still be an upgrade.

BTW, adding a new HD and RAM to those old "white" (or black) MacBooks is pretty easy: take out the battery, unscrew three screws, and you can access to both the RAM and HD.

You will need a torx screw driver to upgrade the HD, however.

As for Leopard I would recommend looking on ebay for a copy.
