I have family in Cedar City. They got 6-8"

We have 6" at the house, but the wind has pushed it around some so, I have some 2 ft drifts in my driveway

Do you live right up against the mountains? News last night was saying that the wind was booming over the mountains out of the East, skipped neighborhoods closer to the mtns, and crashed down farther out into the valley. I'm fairly close to the mtns, but still got a lot of wind. Did people up on the bench get hit? Lebowski, don't you live further in and further up? Did you feel it? Or DDD, did you not get hit because of something else? Normal winds at the point of the mountain counteract the storm? Maybe you happened to be in the eye of a swirl? Were you blowing hot air on the board all that time?

We live along the bench, yes. Maybe that was it. I am sorry if it upsets you that we did not feel the wind.

On my walk this morning I went down to Kaysville ( It is one of my usual routes ). The air was dead calm not even a breeze -eerie. There were a lot of young teens out helping cut up down trees (Davis Schools are off today). The worst damage I personally saw was along 2nd South up to 5th East - alot of shingle/siding damage and some windows blown out. I would guess about 2/3rds of the spruces along main st by Davis High are gone. It seems anyone with a vinal or wood fence has heavy damage. Thankfully the trees along 2nd east seem to have come through okay.

I stopped and talked with my Dad and his area didn't have much damage at all. weird

I may be small, but I'm slow.

No, dude, don't worry about that. I was just curious if the news' explanation applied. For some reason I had the impression that you lived out on the flats.

It was a pretty cool sight in bountiful today. A few stakes had just sacrament and encouraged everyone to cleanup. The line to the dump was several miles long. The streets were basically lined with trucks and trailers with debris.

This wind tonight isn't supposes to be as bad.

As far as I know, nobody has been killed because of this storm. Pretty amazing when you see the number of large trees that are down, the size of debris that was flying around, etc.

I heard of a couple that went to the hospital in critical condition when they ventured outside to try to secure some things and were struck by debris, but as far as I know, they are stable.

The row of large pines north of Davis High on the east side of Main Street were decimated. More than half of them gone.

That was a favorite spot to grab for the 4th of July parade.

On 200 North, many large trees were down. I saw an RV/camper trailer upside down.

Reports are that Davis County Golf Course, like Oakridge, lost hundreds of trees. (I heard over 300, but you know how accurate these things are.)

Farmington took it hard, but so did Kaysville. It'd be a tough call.

The new apartments being built by Station Park were heavily damaged.

The condos near there had a few units where you could see right into the attics.

We lost our east fence, a couple down spouts, two fence gates and most of our east facing shingles and our shed was heavily damaged.

It wasn't the worst wind storm I remember (I remember one where a lot of people lost roofs), but it would probably be #2 in my lifetime.

So many old, big trees bit the dust.

My wife has a friend here from Ohio. She said, "It looks like a tornado went through here."

It was a brutal wind storm.
Wow, that's sad PU. Losing that many trees will really change the place. Like I said, I remember at least one storm when I was young that felled several trees as well. I don't know what it is about the Layton-Bountiful area, but these winds were legendary when I was a kid.

Several Layton Stakes did the same. This morning in F&T mgt, we have the 9:00 AM mgt, the Stake Pres came in about 1/2 way through and canceled our mgt the rest of the block and told us all to go home and get prepared for the comming storm tonight and help anyone who needed it. Starting Friday, Layton/Davis County is actually letting people use the dump for free. The lines were pretty long.

This afternoon we had a ward potluck supper after working all day cleaning up the neighborhoods. It actually wasn't too bad. Several people commented that that was a way to have a ward party - no decorations, no paper on the tables - people just got together and ate and talked.

We are in the middle of some pretty high winds right now in Las Vegas, with gusts up to 53 mph. Its so bad that I can feel my office building swaying in the wind. Its making me sick.
