  • Holiday Service Opportunities

I am feeling it this year...the holidays that is....and I am looking forward to having the kids and their friends all around over the next 6 weeks.

Next Wednesday, the YM/YW from our ward (14 and older) are going to work for 2 hours at the homeless shelter. I think I have hooked my family up for more volunteering time later that evening at a local restaurant that serves free dinners to about 2000 homeless....I mean Occupy Bakersfield protesters.

Then I am going to look for some places during the rest of the holiday season.

Anyone else do anything? Family tradition or a service opportunity that has helped you get into the spirit of the season?

"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
