    The Property Damage Thread

Had some local scoundrels spray paint a bunch of cars in our neighborhood last night including one of ours. There's a nice bright orange streak on the trunk of our car...wonderful.

Whatever happened to kids playing video games or playing kick the can?

    Lousy taggers.

Off to chat with the insurance...
"They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I hate people who think destroying another's property is fun, cool or even deserved. What's the point?

Whatever the legal punishment is, it should be more heavy-handed.

We had somebody drop our gate to go hunting (pretty much anybody who asks gets permission) and forget to put the gate back up. I have no idea who it was, but the result was black cows on the highway at night. Fortunately, nobody in either of the cars was hurt, but both vehicles were totaled, and I spent most of the night out making sure everything was back in off the highway. Plenty of property damage to go around.

Earlier this week, a jr high kid walking through a park on his way home from school decided to throw a rock about 150 feet at my SUV parked in front of my house. It shattered the back window. Unfortunately for the kid, I had taken the day off work and was working in the fenced back yard. I saw the two guys running away and yelled after them that I would find out who they are. I had a decent description. A lady walking in the park saw it happen and gave a better description as did a neighbor sitting in a parked car.

The local police took their time to arrive but were deligent in interviewing all the witnesses and getting the description of the kids. As I'm cleaning up the huge mess of safety glass on my street with my teenage kids and warning them to never be involved in such behavior - a mom pulls up in her car with her son. He was the one who didn't throw the rock and was suprised when his "associate" did the deed. He gave his account of the incident and we told him to soon expect a courtesy visit from the police who were investigating.

Got to give credit that there are still adults and kids who do the right thing. I'm still probably still out the $250 to replace the window, but I feel much better about my neighborhood. Also feel badly for the kid who broke my car window because he was walking home later than other kids...because he was serving detention after school.

You're saying this one would be more appropriate?

Consent might mitigate, yes. I look forward to hearing more of your hypothetical so that I can eventually win. The longer it drags out, the better.

Yes. That is an example of property damage for which those responsible should be punished severely.

I was in RES when this took place. As my wife and I entered the stadium, I heard someone ask one of the ushers what was going to happen to the chairs and benches in the stadium because of the upcoming renovation to the stadium. The usher answered "We've been told by the university that if anyone asks about it, we can tell them they have permission to take their seats or portions of their benches if they want to remove it."

I didn't participate, but many did, with the permission of the university.

Is that what that pic was? If so, I am embarrassed that I didn't realize it. Those idiots should have the book thrown at them.
