Impulse Purchases

If you are like me and sometimes find yourself buying stupid stuff for no good reason, please discuss.

In truth, I do not consider myself to be an impulsive buyer in general, however I have made some impulsive purchases.

This morning I stopped by Target to return something for MMM. While I was there, I noticed they had BYU jackets for children and the jackets were on sale. So $10 later, I walk out with a new jacket for my son.

As I'm walking to my car, I notice one of those seasonal Halloween shops has opened across the parking lot. All of a sudden I felt it quite urgent that I check out this Halloween shop.

Upon entering, i was greeted by this frightening sight. I almost left



After perusing the inventory, I walked out with 6 foam headstones of various sizes and prices. The were all on sale, BOGOs, you name it. All told for the day I think I spent $50. I went straight to work afterward.

Fast forward to this evening. I arrive home and set up my haul on the living room floor to show MMM. I spread out the headstones for her to behold in their Halloween glory.

This was the setup I was thinking would impress her



She enters the room and looks at them. She asks, "why did you buy those?" i had no good answer other than that they were on sale and I thought they would be cool to have. She asked again what we were going to do with them and pointed out that Halloween was over a month away. She asked how much all of it costs and I told her "$50." she said "that's weird." and then left the room.

Sometimes I wonder if she is out there actively searching for a better life

This entire thread was just a way for you to show off your insanely expensive (and beautiful) molding.

About the only time I am tempted to impulse buy is when I visit Sam Weller's Bookstore That is why my wife will never let me go there by myself

I'm a terrible impulse buyer. I come by it honestly, though. My mom would never send my dad to the store b/c if she did, he'd come back with items that would stock any pantry, mudroom, and random hall closet for two years.

I went to the Kern County Fair on Saturday. I was able to fight the impulse to buy every little gadget and trinket that the vendors were peddling except one.

I am not an impulse buyer. I usually end up talking myself out of most purchases. If I do end up buying it takes me a month or two to come to the determination.

It was in impulse because I decided to buy it yesterday, but hadn't planned on it. I had been thinking about a belly putter for a few months now though.

What counts as an impulse purchase? I've been looking for golf shoes for the past 2-3 months without finding anything to my liking. Yesterday, while killing time between depositions, I stumble into a Sports Authority (which has a truly terrible selection of golf shoes) and see a pair of brown Adidas that I've never seen before. I'm looking for white, but I try the brown and they feel great. Easily as comfortable as the $250 AdiPure pair I tried on at Golf Galaxy last week. These are only $80. It makes me wonder if they come in white and how much they would be online. During the deposition I google them and find them, in white, for $54.99. Done.

Impulse? Sort of, i guess. I wasn't shopping for golf shoes that day and I ended up buying a pair of golf shoes.


On a somewhat related note, there are some seriously clunky, seriously ugly golf shoes out there. While these aren't my favorite golf shoes ever, they are cheap, and they meet a few criteria that I had set:

1) They're not bulky/clunky (Nike and FootJoy are the worst offenders here);
2) Don't feature some funky accent color that won't match anything (I'm looking at you, Puma);
3) they don't have some unsightly stitching or perforation pattern on/around the toe (most adidas) and
4) leather upper.

Where did you find those for $55? I like them. I have been looking for some plain black ones. I almost got the Nike Zoom Trophy's from Sports Authority here the other week. They were on clearance for $60 but they only had a white and black in my size and I was looking for the all black.

I am a weird impulse buyer...in fact, it probably doesn't quality. I will see something and determine right there that I have to have it. But instead of buying it right there, I will go home and search for the best price and then buy it. So it is an impulse in that I was not planning on buying it, but it is not impulse because I buy it later that day for a better price. Yeah, thats how I roll.
