Flat screen TV install question

For those that put their TV up on the wall, did you DIY or did you have someone do it? Does anyone have any recs or know anyone that does this as a business in Utah? I've seen some DIY jobs and some look awful...the wiring is all jacked up, etc.

I found one guy who is based in Ogden but he doesn't come down to U-Co.

Back home there were loads of people that did this as a small business. I'm surprised there aren't more here because I'm pretty sure there would be plenty of business if the price were right. There are 20 guys in SLC and U-Co that will fix RROD for your xbox but barely anyone that installs flat screen TVs.

I did my own with a $9 bracket set I bought at IKEA.

Are you planning on running the wires behind the wall? If not, as others have said, this is very, very easy to do. If you want to run the wires behind the wall, it is still not all that hard, but would probably be worth it for a busy man such as yourself to hire someone to do it.

We didn't run our wires behind the walls, just strategically positioned a basket on a cabinet below the TV and the wires run behind it.

We also put the speakers in baskets, since my wife thinks speakers look ugly. The baskets do not seem to muffle the sound that much.

Back in OC I watched the guy set our old TVs up and it looked pretty straightforward but it took awhile. I don't want to spend hours doing that. Also, he had some custom tool to push all the cables and wires down through the wall, which he said saved him a lot of time. I don't have that, either.

Flash has done it twice now, drilling holes and running electrical wires and surround sound through the walls and whathaveyou. He always does an awesome job, but it is a huge hassle, imo.

I built my own home theater in a room above our garage which includes nine speakers (three sub woofers), all hidden in the walls and in the floor. Given the room was already dry walled I and to get very creative about doing the wire runs (wire snakes are your friend). I also added a cool air return in the equipment closet to keep things cool. It was a pain but turned out to be very nice.

You may want to consider something like Sonos to cut down on the wire pulling. It has a very cool iPad controller app.
