Btw, I usually don't use best buy but when I have, and when I've had a return, they have been stellar about it. Not sure if that is just TX or company wide. Suspect the latter.
They are good about returns. I bought a video camera here in Utah, about 2 weeks later I took it to Disneyland and it quit working. I drove over to the Best Buy in Anaheim with no box, reciept, just the camera. They replaced it with a brand new camera in the box and told me to keep all the extra cords and things.

I used BB because it was convenient, and for the return policy. The 18-month same as cash plan is useful when I am cash-poor...

On second thought, how about the Apple AirPort Extreme Wireless-N base station? Any thoughts? It is the same price as the Linksys E3000 and E4200, and of course Apple has a reputation for top quality components.

My last office had an AirPort and it gave all of us nothing but grief.

I have heard great things about the AirPort, but, unlike Surfah, I don't have any first-hand experience with it.

i would hesitate just for the fact that dd-wrt would never be an option.

You could always get a cheap LinkSys and turn it into a DD-WRT router.

                  Um...more explanation, please?

EDIT: Ok...I can read. It looks like the 2500 that I just ordered isn't supported.

...yet. They will probably add it soon. My E2000 IS supported by dd-wrt. As is my ancient (and rock solid) Netgear WGR614v6 that I currently use as a second router.

Cam, I know dd-wrt is good but can you expound upon what makes it so desirable?

Why a second router? Is there any reason I shouldn't just toss the one I have right now?

If this dd-wrt is such a magic fix, why don't they come with it already done?

DD-WRT is basically an open source method to give your cheap router the functionality a much higher end router (i.e. Cisco, Juniper, SonicWall, etc) would have.

So the answer is they do come with it (or the equivalent functionality) already, but at a much higher price point.

I am using the second router as a bandaid.

You could try to install dd-wrt on your current router, as it may give you some functionality that would make it useful...

Does anyone have any comments on the Linksys E4200? It's at Costco for $135.

I have had pretty good luck with Linksys, but I recommend looking it up on Amazon and checking out the reviews.

I bought an Apple Airport Express last year and have been extremely happy with it (~$99). Not a single problem and I never have to reboot it.
