I just rented a car online for $6.12 total.

I'm flying into LAX tomorrow morning early, going to a meeting in Century City, going to the Chinese consulate, going to lunch, then flying back to SLC in the afternoon. I had some online coupon that I combined with another promo and the total with tax came out to $6.12.

It is an economy class so I might be cruising around town in a SmartCar

The car rental company is some bizarre name that I've never tried..."Nu"

It is quite possible that this entire thing is an organ harvesting scam. If I don't post anything tomorrow by 10AM MST someone please notify the police.

Are you applying for a Chinese visa?

Last week I found $9 in the ashtray of a rented Buick Lacrosse. I was going to just leave it but I needed a dollar to pay for parking.

Yes. Also, I was going to go there for lunch. I assume that they have good Chinese food.

There you go again. Why does everything have to be about race?

The week I left my passport with the Chinese Embassy in Tokyo was the most nervous I've ever been. I fully expected it to get "lost" and end up on eBay or something. Never again will I give a Chinese governmental organization a critical piece of my identity documentation.

            Have fun at the consulate!

You are lucky I'm not going to Japan.

It is same day service. I drop it off by 11:30 and pick it up at 2pm. The fee is something like $20 more but I think it would be worth it. Apparently that was not your experience? What happened? Are you not planning to go back to China again?

Nothing happened... It just dawned on me the day after I dropped off my passport that it wasn't aNorway or Switzerland I had given my passport, it was freaking China, I'd trust my passport with Iran more than with China. Scared the hell out of me.

I'd definitely go back to Hong Kong -- we had a great time there -- but I didn't come away with favorable impressions of Beijing or Shanghai. When the highlight of a trip to a city is enjoying a fruity mocktail with YOhio, you know the city pretty much sucks.

Now you have me worried. That sounds like a horrible experience. I can see why you were so freaked out. YOhio?!?

We liked Beijing okay. Lots of people spitting, though. The Chinese food was great.

Be careful, Triple D. It sounds like the Chinese spit in their food and that MBN liked it.

Just got back from a vacay where we rented an Expedition. Didn't get a screaming deal, but going through Costco it only cost $1k for 15 days. Not bad. Two things happened though.

First, we got a flat on I-15 heading south near Clearfield. We were doing maybe 75 when I felt the back squirm and the tire light came on. Got to show my son how to change a tire during heavy traffic, but thankfully we were near an exit so I was able to get somewhat off the freeway before changing it.

Since we were basically already passing the airport, we stopped in to see if we could change cars. They only had one car big enough for the fam and bags, so we ended up with a Navigator for a week at no additional charge. On our way headed east on highway 40 I got a big rock chip that resulted in a two foot long crack in the windshield by the time I returned the car. MJ was worried we'd have to pay through the nose to have it repaired but I just decided to not say anything when I brought t back. Sure enough, when I returned the car they said nothing about the obvious cracked glass. I got the final bill which was for the initial amount and never had to fill out an incident report (which I had to do for the flat tire).

BTW, Lincoln Navigators suck. They have some nice features, but they are a tank to operate and their turning radius is awful.
