This was my response also. I went to a tailor today to have a suit made. He tried to convince me that it is not only acceptable but needed in a formal setting.

Only needed if you have pleats. Pleated pants look stupid without the cuff, IMO.

Please don't take away my pleats and cuffs. They will once again reconquer the fashion world.

No one's taking away your pleats grandpa.

I still wear pants with pleats and cuffs. All of my suits have a single pleat and a cuff. That's just how I like my suits. Its not cutting edge fashion, but it won't gout out of style any time soon. Double pleats is a little dicey.

Flat front should never have cuffs, but pleated pants can be either cuffed or uncuffed. Personally, I tend to shy away from pleats and cuffs altogether, as i'm not a fan of either. In my opinion if you have pleats, adding cuffs is like adding a second wrong in an attempt to make right. However, all pleats are not created equal, so there are some exceptions where adding cuffs is acceptable.

Translation: Jos A. Banks doesn't sell flat-front suits.

Wrong. Pleated pants have more fabric and of course demand a crease. You need the extra weight of the cuff at the bottom of the pant to balance the weight at the top. Otherwise that cuff-less pant leg gets dominated and flops around on top of your shoe.

I do not have any cuffed pants. I do, however, have one button-down collar.
