  • Wow, tornadoes suck... and blow... and stuff

For years growing up in the South we had tornado drills along with fire drills and hurricane (pronounced -kane not -kin) safety alerts. We didn't have any come too close, but last Saturday my hometown sure got pummeled by them. Actually, a lot of eastern NC did.

Here's a collection of photos, though I can't post any directly from the first 2 sets because they're blocked:

I have nothing else to say at this time.

These things just keep coming. We're bracing for more coming in from 2-5am so it might be a long night.

        Stay safe.

Just saw that Tuscaloosa got hammered by a horrible tornado right in the heart of one of the busiest areas of town. 15 dead. Several of our friends homes destroyed but they are okay. My daughter's former elementary school and pre-school are destroyed. Don'tknow yet whether our former home or apartment were damaged or destroyed, but they were less than a mile from areas that were utterly destroyed.

I am really, really afraid or tornadoes.

Yeah what the hell is going on? Tornado warnings are getting old in Virginia.

It's the end of the world as we know it! It's the end of the world as we know it! And I feel fine.

That's crazy. Stay safe and hunker down.

I live about 5 miles away from Parrot Head, so I assume he is safe, but I woke up at about 3:30 this morning, amd there was a storm several miles away that was just producing a constant roll of thunder. It wasn't too loud, because of the distance, but there was just constant lightning and thunder with no break for quite a while. It was pretty cool, just a long, continuous rumble. It kept me up for a while as I made sure it wasn't getting any closer to me, but other than making the dog nervous, it did no harm in my area.

We just took a vacation to North Carolina. We had the option of getting a beach house from Sat to Sat or Sun to Sun. If we had elected to go Sat to Sat, we would have ended up being caught up in the middle of those storms - because the time of day we would have been on the road would have coincided with the timing of the storms. As we drove through on Sunday, we saw destroyed homes and trees along Highway 70. Terrible stuff.

You took a vacation to NC and didn't come visit the CUF Carolinas Chapter? I am a little hurt.

I was at the NC beach from the 19th to the 23rd. You weren't the family in the house next to us who kept throwing water balloons, were you?

I was in an Emerald City duplex on the beach. We were the family that had to escort a kid back to the house every 23.4 seconds for a bathroom break.

We were about 20 or 30 miles south of you.

Just teach your kid that that is what the ocean is for.

We had the window open and somehow I still slept through everything. But, fortunately, there wasn't too much happening on the ground here.
