    Pointy finger click pain

Question for the heavy computer users and/or internet porn addicts out there.

For the last few years off and on I've been getting pain in my click finger to the point where it becomes bad enough to complain about (or post on the internet). I'll switch to my middle finger clicking. I've tried different mouses (mice? what's plural of computer mouse, computer mice sounds so gay but computer mouses sounds illiterate) but haven't found a good solution. Anyone experience this or have any good ideas?

I'm an extremely heavy computer user. I'm also a super-fast minesweeper player and have spent hours and hours doing the rapid clicking of minesweeper. I've never experienced it.

You could try trackballs or get a mouse with side buttons (i.e. click with your thumb).

On those rare occasions when I use the plural to refer to the things I use "meeces." Hope this helps.

Suck it up. I once drove from Kansas City to Denver with pointer finger pain.

Not that I'm accusing everyone in this thread that is complaining of pointer finger pain, but I'm pretty sure that frequently checking one's oil is probably to blame. Your best bet is to either cut back, or like wuap suggests, switch hands. Hope this helps.

Incidentaly, these are the kinds of complaints that drive medical students away from family practice. That and the pay.

How about a mouse that has more sensitive click, so you don't have to press as hard? Or mouse where you click with your whole finger not the tip, so the pressure can in your lower finger area?

Why use your finger? Use the force.

                      Apple Trackpad...

I work at my computer at least eight hours a day, and I’m trying to provide an ergonomic setting for that prolonged usage. My Bluetooth keyboard sits on a tray designed for that purpose, and is a good height for proper ergonomics. The mouse I used until the Magic Trackpad arrived sat next to the keyboard. As good a setting as this is for prolonged work, at the end of the day, my right wrist would often feel a little pained, and sometimes a bit numb. My only reason for getting the Magic Trackpad was to see if it would alleviate this discomfort at the end of the day.

Now that I’ve used the Magic Trackpad for a full week, I can state it achieved my goal. The discomfort in my wrist has disappeared; it did so in just a few days. The angle of the Trackpad and the method of working with it have improved the ergonomics nicely.
Who knows... it may work for pointy finger click pain as well.
