"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

We would work until dark and then stop at Sundance after dark and do work on a house in Sundance until about midnight. I did this for 2 straight months. Because I was the laborer I basically moved lumber all day everyday. The Sundance house was set back on the mountain and the driveway was to steep for the delivery trucks to get up. So they dropped the lumber at the bottom of the driveway. It was my job to haul all the lumber in to the house and at times up 4 flights of stairs.

It didn't help that my boss quit paying me halfway through the summer and like a dumbass I believed him that he would get me next week.
Something similar happened to me when I took a job building racquetball courts when I was fifteen. I was the bitch and the boss quit paying me with promises to do so later. Never happened.

When I was about 17, I worked shoveling snow off the rooftops of commercial buildings. Made incredible money for a teenager, but I earned every penny. Sometimes I wonder if I screwed up my back for life because of that job.

The house I grew up in was 14' off the ground and the only heat source in Winter was the wood-burning stove. I hauled firewood during my entire youth up those stairs. I got to the point where I could carry 16 pieces at once.

What can you expect from a bunch of guys that only scored high enough on their ASVAB to get into the infantry?

The ability to spell isn't high on the list of abilities/ priorities when people are shooting machine guns at ya, or swinging a rifle butt at your head.

              It's all relative.

Dito for me. I would have to say bucking hay is harder especially in the middle of an Idaho winter that is so cold that icicles instantly form out your nostrils from your breath. This gave me a lot motivation to work hard in college.

I spent most of the summer between my junior and senior year of high school putting up barbed wire fence at my paternal grandpa's sheep ranch in southern Utah. To this day, I curl up into a fetal position whenever I see a post digger.

I made my kids help me put up a barbed wire fence around a 40 acre property this last summer. They still haven't forgiven me.

I wish it would have only been 40 acres. The area to be fenced was about 450 acres or so. Fortunately, I got to leave to head home to go to school. Two-a-days were cake that year.
