Things you had/used as a kid, that is outdated for your kids

The newspaper thing got me thinking even more about things my kids really don't have any idea about. Things that I used/had as a kid, but technology has passed it by and it is just flat out funny or weird to them.

    Rotary phones

    LP's and turntables

    8 track tapes

    cassette tapes

    boom box

    polaroid intant cameras

    waterbeds

(I'll edit this as I think...but, man, in one short generation, there is a ton of things that my kids think are funny and weird)
"Newton's First Law of Motion: ...things at rest tend to stay at rest. Things in motion, tend to stay in motion...."

Hmm... Good motivation for me to remain active I guess.

      Not so recently

but along this same vein: One night we lost the TV remote. Hey, it's just gone! Search failing, I walk to the set and push the power button. My at the time 14 year old says "How'd you do that?"

Ah the fun I had explaining to him the days of black and white, aluminum foil on the rabbit ears and three channels.

That reminds me of this video of kids trying to figure out what some older products are.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Jockstraps in PE as required attire. My Junior High actually made us line up and pull one of the straps low through the bottom of our shorts to prove we were properly dressed each day. Do jock straps even exist anymore? That was one weird piece of attire. The assless chaps of the sports world.

Since "vagina" means "sheath" that jock cover is very interesting.

My kids asked me what a boom box was the other day. I described a boom box to them and showed them how people used to carry boom boxes around on their shoulders. They, with their iPod nanos, laughed themselves silly at the thought of carrying a boom box on one's shoulder.

We had a Betamax VCR as a kid and only had one video store that rented Betamax videos. The selection of videos dwindled and dwindled until my parents finaly bought a VHS.
