    Google Voice

This looks pretty slick. Who uses it? How and why?

I'm pretty behind the times when it comes to phone technology but I need to get up to speed fast to help me stay on top of business. This looks like it could help.

I use it primairly to transcribe my vmx from my cell. It then sends them to my gmail account and as a txt to my phone. I can also listen to it from gmail.

I tried it for a while but was disappointed in the result. The transcribed voice mails were almost always unreadable gibberish. Like a drunk ape had typed it up with his toes.

You shouldn't talk about my messages like that.

Seriously, ladies and germs, mine has worked out pretty well. About 25% are easily read and understood, about 50% are clear enough to get the point and about 25% were done by the inebriated handless ape. But you still have the message and can always listen. I like it.

Maybe you need friends that enunciate more clearly.

So I frequently forward my business phone to my cell phone even if I'm at home like if I go down in the basement to work out. My cell phone gets shitty reception in my house especially the basement. But would forwarding business line to Google voice be a good option, since I have a strong wifi set up in the house?

I have a friend that has unlimited data through his work phone, but no text messaging. He uses his voice account as a text service. It works just fine, aside from the fact that it doesn't accept pix messages.

I've got an account that Ive only used when checking it out to set it up. The voice to text transcription was more in line with creekster. 60-70% of the time it is fairly clear, with the rest of the time it being just jibberish.

I use Google Voice for Church. It forwards to my personal cell phone so I can screen Church calls. That's about all I use it for.

This is what I do. I don't have to pay for text messaging. There's a great app and widget that makes it easy to use on your phone and being able to run it all for a computer is great.

I use it for free texting and so I can give patients a phone number that they can call that I can subsequently easily block if I need to.

I use it for voice mail as well. On the quality of the transcription, it varies and is sometims pretty garbled. But it definitely transcribes better than the deault voice mail, which doesn't do it at all.

A co-worker recently received this message via text translation on Google Voice:
