  • Who has the highest mileage vehicle?

I have a Mazda with 165,000 miles on it. Can anyone beat that?

Almost. We just recently laid to rest our 155,000 mile van.

Our Chevy Venture Van has a 198K on it - it coming to the end of its life. We will probably replace it this year.

My daughter drives a 1991 Honda Accord that has over 200K - hopefully it will get her through school

I may be small, but I'm slow.

I will win this hands down. I have an "Everready-Energizer Bunny" vehicle. It keeps going and going and going.

            Best vehicle I've ever owned.

1999 Grand Jeep Cherokee - 309,600 (not kidding)

What do I win? Just tell me now.

Thats a lot of miles in only a dozen years. So what is your secret to longevity? Do you use synthetic oil?

My '97 Saab 900 SE has 179k. I recently resurected it to use as a commuter because I don't want to run the mileage up on my Titan. The '97 a piece of crap compared to the '83 Saab 900 I had until 2002 which had 302k on the clock before I SOLD it. That '83 was a friggin fantastic car.

Congratulations! You have the ONLY Grand Cherokee that didn't destroy itself by 94k miles.

I have a Chrysler Concorde LXi with 178k miles on the clock. It has the bulletproof 3.2L 24V V-6. It is ugly as hell, looks somewhat like a pimped out manta ray, but it still is very quick for a big car (~240 hp on a very light 3500 lbs will do that). It was one of the few cars that got decent mileage, but could still fit 3 carseats onthe back bench.

I routinely get 28.5 mpg at ~75 on the freeway. I paid about $3k for it 4 years ago, could probably sell it for $2500 today. Cheapest.Car.Ever.

My dad's original 1978 Honda Accord Hatchback had 324k on the odometer when my aunt totalled it somewhere around 1987. The body completely rusted through in 4 places but the engine was still perfect and smooth.

We had a 1989 Honda Accord LX (last carbureted version) with 274k on the clock when sold. It survived 4 teenagers, was badly wrecked twice, and was on its 3rd paint job. It still got 38 mpg at 75-80 mph on the freeway. Unbelievable by today's standards. Perhaps having a 94hp engine and 2600 lb curb weight had something to do with that. Safety and acceleration performance were not as big of a concern then...

I've leased most of my cars so since graduation so I have never really had a car with more than around 45K or so at worst when I turned it back in.

I also owned 2 cars during that time period but never drove them up past 30K or so before I sold them.

Right now my car is way over miles, though. Too much driving around this summer

HA, my ski trip mobile is a 93 Cherokee with 185,000 and going strong. Makes the trips up to Mammoth with ease.

No secret. It's just a freak of nature. Every time I talk to my folks (like for the last 2 years) my dad keeps asking how many miles I have and if it is dead yet.

Maybe the real secret is that it is secretly tied to the longevity of my grandmother. She will be turning 101 this March. She is immortal (bless her soul)...and she just keeps going and going too. I think it may be like soul mates....one one dies, the other follows soon thereafter. Here's hoping for a few more good years from Grams.

My mom BABIES her Grand Cherokees. She is on her 6th since '93. They all start developing significant problems around 70k, so she moves on. I was going to buy her '97 from her (in '01) with 94k miles. Took it to the dealer for a checkup, and the transaxle (slipping), transmission (bad discs), and engine (bad bearing) were all about to fail. It would have cost more money to fix than it was worth.

                              Hers all had the V-8.

After the last one nearly died at 50k, my dad SWORE he would never let her get another Heep. He almost had her talked into a Toyota 4Runner, but the Jeep dealer made her a very good deal on the trade and purchase. The new one is better by far, but still has more issues than it should.

Most people have issues when they put on big tires. The baby-size Dana 30 style axles simply can't handle any more strain than stock setup.

It is a shame, too, because "Jeep" used to be synonymous with "Bulletproof".
