"Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.

So, I can't find a reliable Amharic dictionary, and I'm wondering if you're sharing what "Terefe" means? I hope it means "conquering lion of the tribe of Ephraim" or something like that.

We were told by three different people it means, he survived.
I was going to message you and see if you knew a way to learn some basic Amharic, I guess not.

Given the story of Hawk and his adoption, the meaning of that name will bring yet another tear to the reader's eye, but I'll let HFN tell the story.
Edit: Whoops, he just did... Seriously, holding that little boy while you hear the story of how he went from being abandoned in a hostile environment to joining one of the cooler families on the planet, was truly awesome.

Seriously, if you want him to learn some Amharic, find someone in your area who speaks it, and figure out how to get them together. Make them a family friend, have parties for the Ethiopian community at your house, get satellite TV from Ethiopia and have it on the background.
Immersion is the only way for a language like Amharic.
On a side note, did you ask anyone about the G is for gun thing?

No, I just got a chuckle out of it. Even the nannies and workers at the center who spoke English struggled with questions that were not the very normal ones they heard all the time. So I didn't want to cause a scene over a silly poster.
Sorry for a brief thread detour, but on our ride yesterday morning, we were talking about the later rendezvous with the HFNs, and I mentioned I wished we'd gotten them a small welcome home gift (since they were traveling, the big screen TV I had intended to give them wouldn't have qualified as carry-on). So Mrs. PAC said, "You know, I keep a supply of bibs and towels on hand for just such occasions; I'll embroider something for them this afternoon before we head to the airport." What a woman....
Incredible. I am so happy for you guys. What a great thread to open up and read on a Sunday afternoon. Congratulations and thank you for sharing your journey with us.
I had tears well up in my eyes as I thought about all the little ones suffering across the world for various reasons. Even with all the hunger and poverty across the world, nothing makes me more sad than the thought of little ones, rich or poor, growing up without someone who truly loves and cares for them. Knowing that little Hawk Northwest will likely never remember that time in his life makes me incredibly happy.

Congrats, HFN and family! I'm very happy for all of you.
I believe that we should give HFN the CUF Lifetime Achievement Award. Adopting a baby that comes from such dire conditions and bringing him into HFN's family is something that, IMO, minimizes anything that I've ever done in my life.

This is probably the greatest thread in the history of CUF. Congratulations for the HFN family and best wishes during this great time. I think all of CUF considers Hawk a Godson.
I am happy for your safe return and happy for this little child who will be forever blessed by being a part of your family. You are one of the most sincere guys here, HFN. This child couldn't have ended up in a better circumstance. Congrats!
