    ACT with writing?

I'm signing my kid up for the ACT and am not sure if he needs the ACT or the ACT with writing (they didn't have that one in my day). Anyone know?

Depends on what the schools to which he/she is applying require.

I suspect if it is not required, then your child would prefer to skip it. BYU did not require it this year, despite suggesting early that it might. That may change for next year, or the next.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Thanks. Seems like it might be wise to take it if BYU is close to requiring it.

I'd call admissions first to see what they say. The hassle is that one must take it each time one takes the test. My daughter took the writing portion the first time when BYU was suggesting it would be required, but then when we confirmed it wouldn't be, she didn't take it again. Who wants to provide a writing sample after 3+ hours of ACT?

        Good luck to your child.

My daughter just took the ACT and I suggested that she take the writing test just in case a school she decides to applies to requires it. We always wait until we get the test results before sending them on too.
