  • I love CUF

As I was enjoying a wonderful Christmas day, playing games, making Simpson's donuts, napping, watching bad TV, I was really thinking about how much I love this place.

I feel such a great kinship with this community and as corny as it may sound it means a great deal to me. I feel welcomed and accepted for being myself here. I love the interaction and banter. I miss this place when I am away.

Merry Christmas to all my fellow CUFers and thanks.

I know it sounds weird, but you can really get to know people here if you put in the effort. We first traded an Oregoncentric email, in 2004, and we didn't meet until 2010. We chatted it up like old friends, and had a great time.

One of my bigger problems is being on here when I really should be doing something more productive. Maybe that's why my 2010 income was half of 2009. At least I'm my own boss, and have a master plan to get back on track.

HFN, you're as much to blame as anyone on the board for it being the great community that it is. My wife and I still marvel at your outstanding efforts for the 2010 Tour de CUF, including the provision of a superb rest stop as well as riding your bike around Mt. Bachelor. And I always thought I was possessed of a fairly dry, subtle wit, but next to you I am Soupy Sales on meth.

One of the criticisms of social networking via Facebook and even communities like this one is that while they facilitate having more relationships with others, those relationships tend to be more shallow. I don't think that's the case here. I feel genuinely close to a lot of people here, including some I've never met in person. I read with great interest the struggles, triumphs and insights of so many here, and I know I'm a better person because of that.

            CUF loves you more!
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

HFN, I have been thinking about your post. Great people like you are the reason I enjoy this little online community so much. I have been doing some slumming on other online venues and nothing else comes close for me. If you are ever in the UC, lunch is on me.

I echo the words of those who sent kindness back at you HFN. You are a great guy.

I enjoy this place. Everyone on here has some great redeeming qualities, except for one person.

Thank you all for the kind words, but my intent was not that this be a thread about me. We'll leave that kind of stuff to Babs/Niku.

If HFNW ever comes to Hartsville, South Carolina, I'll make him lunch, take him to see Pearl Fryar's Garden (don't laugh!), and finish the day off with a round of ice-cold Mexican Cokes from Tienda La Victoria.

I was never a good one-upper, so I'll just say if HFN wants to come to my house, he can ask Surfah, Gidget, UD, and Super what I have to offer.

I also echo his sentiments about the board.

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

Oh yeah, if HFN ever comes to Provo again, I will offer to pay for lunch at Nicoitallia, but I wont pay for it!
