    Refurbished iPhones, iPads, etc.

What exactly is the refurbishing process and is it good enough to justify a price that is such a high ratio to the price of a brand new one?

I don't know, but I bought a refurbed Ipod Touch in January and it's been just fine.

Don't know, but as long as you're getting the same warranty as new, take the discount. I've had good luck with previous refurb Apple products.

I got a refurb iPad from the online apple store a few months ago. I noticed that it was shipped from the factory in china directly to me. The iPad looked in every way new. It even had that new smell.

A lot of these are when a customer buys it, opens it up and returns it...or he uses for a couple of weeks and returns it. Nothing wrong with it, just a change of heart.

Other refurbished items can be some kind of break down and the phone was brought in...it was fixed and sold again as refurbished.

Or if a batch fails a quality check (generally in electronics if they find any defects at all), they'll pull the whole batch, check the batch to ensure that there's no systematic defects and to make sure each unit works, and then sell the whole batch as 'seconds' - which we all buy cheap on woot or overstock or ebay...
