Do you have any experience or knowledge about refurbished electronics? I am looking at a couple of laptops. One is an HP with the intel i7 processor, but it is refurbished. Another is a little cheaper, a Dell, with an i5 processor, not refurbished. Do I fear the refurbishing or go for the best processor?

refurbished electronics
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

I wouldn't mind refurbished. They're restored to original retail quality and usually carry the same warranty. When I buy my next Mac I'll probably go refurb.Originally posted by marsupial View PostDo you have any experience or knowledge about refurbished electronics? I am looking at a couple of laptops. My current mac is a refurb and carries the same warranty as the new ones. Electronics require a "burn in" period to catch faulty components. The way I see it is my laptop has had a longer burn in period.Originally posted by Surfah View PostI wouldn't mind refurbished. Edit: Also my iPad is a refurb. It looked brand new and, interestingly, was shipped to me directly from china (where they make them). One thing I would be careful with is making sure you don't have any (or a lot of) dead pixels on the screen once you get it. Some refurbs are laptops that have been returned because of a dead pixel or two.Last edited by Uncle Ted; 11-19-2010, 08:28 AM."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

On the cell phone side, most refurbs are top quality, esp if you are getting them through direct channel (corporate stores). As surfah pointed out, they come with full warranty.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

I've purchased refubs before, and they worked just as well as if I had bought the equipment new, so I wouldn't hesitate to buy a refurb again as long as the company that refurbished it was either the manufacturer or a reputable company. Not that, sickos.

This laptop only has a 90 day warranty, not a full year like the others.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostMy current mac is a refurb and carries the same warranty as the new ones. Buying refurbished means buying at a reduced cost. You're trading a little security on a unknown outcome. In my experience, when I've bought a refurbished item, I've been satisfied with the outcome. Never a regret, although I've regretted several "brand new" purchases. I vote go for it.
