  • Motorola's DROID Pro

CMBF posted about the DROID Pro in rooted Android thread. Does anyone here plan to get one (available in Verizon stores this Thursday)? I love my Moto Droid, and previously really liked my BlackBerry -- the DROID Pro seems to me like a great marriage.

I notice that the ability to use Flash is a prominent feature point on the main product page.

I am still puzzled and annoyed by Apple for this oddball approach.

I am going to be getting an Android phone in the next month or two. I'm curious as why this particular phone is the one you want exactly? Is the Blackberry keyboard a lot better than a virtual keyboard?
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I have a Blackberry for work. I have an Android with just a virtual keyboard for personal. The virtual keyboard pwns the BB. Once you get used to it, there is no going back. I get annoyed having to use my BB now.

I cannot use my personal phone for work due to the sensitive nature of what I do. It's not even allowed in my building. And I am on call 24/7.

I use Google Voice for this. I have a voice number that I set up that calls to it can be forwarded to my phones. I have it configured to route any calls to it be forwarded to my work phone during my work hours when I can't have my personal phone. Mostly I use it for Church though. That way people don't have my personal cell phone and I know when someone calls me on that number it is 75% of the time Church related. In fact my ringtone is Come Come Ye Saints for that (It was Awesome God). It's nice being able to screen Church calls.

I have a Droid X that I've ben using and like the phone, but hate the keyboard. Despite Surfah saying he got used to it I haven't. If you want to buy my Droid X I'll sell it to you for a deal, so I can get the Pro.

I use two phones so that I can turn me work calls/email off and still have a phone. Basically nobody contacts me at my office. All email and mobile.

You still happy with your EVO? My upgrade-at-a-discount period is coming up and I am toying with the idea of getting an EVO.

I roll with two crackberry's. Personal and work. I am the same as Surfah, except for the work "security" issues, and am on call 24/7. Sometimes I will forward one to the other, but the work in a Nextel and the Direct Connect is something we use frequently...so I usually have to carry both.

We just got our first Smart Phone at the house this weekend. Picked up the Samsung Captivate, a Galaxy S phone, and it is pretty sweet. It is Android based.

Crappy part...it is for our 13 year old. She now has a better phone than mom and dad.

I love it, but I have had a few issues with it. I am on my 3rd Evo right now. My first one for some reason after 3 months started going into boot loop. I'd use it and it would reboot itself. Then would be fine for a few minutes and then reboot again, and would continue like this until it would just reboot upon reboot. The only way to get it stopped was to pull the battery. I have a sneaking suspicion heat killed my phone by leaving it my car since I can't bring it into work. But I don't know for sure. Regardless Sprint was great and gave me a new one no questions asked. It did take two days for one to come in though. Unfortunately the one they replaced it with had a dead mic. Which I didn't discover for a week or two. Initially I just blamed it on poor reception, but after a few tests, including trying to use the voice recorder (nothing recorded) Sprint replaced it with another new one. So far so good on #3.

I outlined these issues in another thread. It's been a bit frustrating but Sprint's customer service has been outstanding.

I've gotten used to the Droid's virtual keyboard (the regular non-Swype version) and like it, but I prefer the confirmation of pressing physical keys. The keys on the original Moto Droid (the one I have) slide-out keyboard are pretty flat and small, so my preference has been to use the virtual one; I actually never use the slide-out, which is frustrating because it adds a lot of bulk to the phone. Plus, I'm just not a fan of slide-out keyboards because the small space between keyboard and screen is just enough space for collecting pocket dust/lint. Now I need to decide if I should wait until 2012 for Verizon's 4G to include SLC before getting my next phone.

This image gives a sense of the Pro's raised keys:

Have any iphone users had issues with their headphones? I'm on my 4th pair in the last 14 months, and will be needing a 5th pair soon. The controls on them crap out quickly after getting a new pair, and usually one of the ear buds stops working shortly thereafter. Maybe I'm just rough on them. Luckily, the apple store doesn't seem to mind replacing them every time.

I'm still in love my 3GS, but will consider switching to Android next fall when my contract runs out, depending on what the iphone 5 looks like.

I had similar trepidations about a virtual keyboard, and almost didn't get an iphone for that reason. I've learned to love it and wouldn't go back to a Blackberry physical keyboard at this point.
