Disney on Ice at the Delta Center

We saw TV ads for this at amazingly cheap prices ($16!) and so I decided to pop over to the ticket office and see what they had. I ass-u-med that the cheap seats would be nosebleeds.

Turns out there really are no nosebleeds. All seating for this show is lower bowl, so the "worst" seats are actually top-dollar tix for Jazz games. I also got the sense that there are loads of tickets left.

The show runs from Thurs Nov 11 through Sunday Nov 14. Might be a fun Daddy/daughter date if anyone is looking to treat your child/children to a night out.

This is the setup in case anyone was interested. Except no sales for upper bowl.

I saw the Toy Story one with with my daughter, she loved it. I wish I could say the same. I had to keep myself entertained by analyzing how they staged and choreographed it.

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

        I hear you.

I am confident the Puffy Check will be mesmerized. I am concerned that I may spend a big chunk of my time on my blackberry or looking at my watch.

However, I have a feeling that most of my enjoyment will be derived from experiencing the wonder vicariously through the bambini.

My biggest fear is not escaping the arena without any of the children spotting merch for sale. I am guessing we will see a bunch of $30 t shirts for sale.

Just say no. I got out alive without any tantrums, which is saying something about this daughter (she's been known to throw hour long tantrums because you gave her the wrong colored cup).

For those who are thinking of going, it is a good experience, but I would say it's geared towards kids under 7 or 8.

We did Disney Princesses on Ice last year and everything was lower bowl. My daughters loved it.

oh, I will definitely say no. I just don't want them to even see it.

MMM doesn't help. She will be the first to suggest that we "go look" at the merch. She has a habit of getting others excited about something and then not following through

This is a great opportunity to show that LDS members do not hate gays by buying tickets and filling the seats.

Be wary if you got an ad for the Delta Center. I don't want you to get scammed.

We went to this last night. Puffy Check had a blast. I would describe it as "Crack for Kids." For adults, the entire spectacle is entertaining for about an hour, then it starts to drag a bit. In fact, towards the end I was texting Junkie with trivia questions about the Jazz and the Delta Center. But the real joy is watching your children go bananas for all the Disney characters.

As usual, Disney does everything first class all the way. The visuals were great. I'm not an ice skating technician, so I don't know if the skaters were good. To me, it just seemed like a bunch of people skating furiously in different directions the entire time. None of the Cast Members stand still for very long. They are constantly skating around doing something.

The musical numbers were all upbeat or energetic. There were no Oksana Baiul spotlight solos with Tori Amos musical accompaniment. Thank goodness for that.

Dads will enjoy the Little Mermaid segment, with 10 ice skating nymphs roaming around in skin-tight costumes.

The entire event is hosted by Minnie, Mickey, Donald, Daisy, and Goofy. In between numbers, they skate out, engage in some indecipherable repartee (horrible sound system in that arena), and then skate away. Although I couldn't understand what they were saying half the time, I noticed that these bulbous-headed Disney characters basically have 4 moves regardless of where they appear:

                      1. Cover the mouth and move head side to side: this indicates Japanese-style laughter and that everyone should be having fun.
                      2. Put hands and arms slightly in the air, palms up (approx shoulder height) and move head side to side: this indicates emphatic ending to current sentence
                      3. Put both hands on top of head and move head side to side: this indicates exasperation, fear, or shock. I assume that later at home, it can also indicate to Mickey than Minnie is not in the mood.
                      4. Look directly at audience and wave: this indicates that audience is to rush out and purchase merchandise of that specific character

One word of caution: this event is a merchandising juggernaut. As you walk
the concourse, there are merch booths approx every 25 feet. At your seat, you are accosted by roaming vendors selling all manner of glowing/lightup toys/apparel, food, and souvenirs. All of it is incredibly high priced. For example....those wand type devices that have a spinning light-up Disney character on them: $20. A pair of fairy wings with sparkly lights on them: $40. Coloring book was "only" $5. No cash? No problem, all of the roaming vendors take credit cards, even for food. Fortunately, my wife and I were on the same page and we Just Said No, although I did spring for a bag of $6 kettle corn.

Entire show was approx 1 hr 45 min, including a brief intermission. Started right on time but the crowd was relatively sparse. Maybe half full?

For the price, I would recommend taking the small chilluns. They will love it. And tix can be had for $15.

                      Some pics of the show:

                      Ariel and Flounder

Ursula...not underestimating the importance of BODY LANGUAGE!!!

                      Lilo & Stitch

Forgot this dude's name. The farting pig

                      Donald and Daisy

                      Peter Pan, Tinkerbell and crew

My sister and her family just got back from the Dis. She thought it was pretty neat that they spent "only" $170 on souvenirs in 2 days. I'm wondering if I'm a bad parent now since we spent a week at Disney World and only bought a $12 package of Star Wars figures.

Also, you forgot to post the picture of the 10 mermaids.

I tried to take some but they didnt turn out. too blurry. cell phone cam.

Before the show, the announcer said that everyone was welcome to take pics "and video" but not for commercial use. I wonder if that means you can bring your camcorder.
