In the shadow of the temple

After six+ years in South Central, it looks like we are going to move to Westwood, for the sake of Little Robin, to get him into a decent middle school. The school in question is literally adjacent to the LDS temple in Los Angeles. If all goes to plan, we will live within walking distance to the temple.

It is a good neighborhood, wildly different than where we have lived. I will miss the the flirtatious prostitutes and the friendly neighbors. I will miss the street tacos and the cute packs of feral animals. I won't miss the gunshots and the loud Mexican polka music.

Anyhow, hopefully this will mean more visits from family, and other LDS loved ones, who will see our proximity to the temple as a bonus. Now I just need to find a job that can pay for the new lifestyle.

This is good new Robin. Whenever I would watch "The Shield" I would think of you and the things you must have seen.

Will Faith still teach in South Central or will she try to transfer somewhere closer to the Westwood area?

Dont do it man! What happened to your convictions! How is East LA going to integrate with all the white flight going on? Who will feel chastized when you chide mormons for their separate, white bread neighborhoods?

It's a shame when petty things like the mortality of your offspring have to muddy the idealistic waters.

I've been watching The Shield, and it is WAY over the top. Things can get bad, but the Shield takes the worst things that ever happen and makes them look like common occurrences. That just isn't the reality.

Faith is committed to her school in South Central, so she will continue to teach there.

I have very mixed feelings about this. We applied to a South Central magnet school with decent API scores, but didn't get accepted. The local school just wasn't going to be an option, since it is terrible. So, in spite of our commitment to the neighborhood, we find ourselves moving out. I will remain connected, however, since we will rent the house to a nice Mexican family, probably illegal.

I have a friend that lived on Westborne for 5 years. He really liked the neighborhood.

It really does look like a great neighborhood. The thing we look forward to the most is having parks within walking distance, and being able to run at night without driving to the other side of town.

And when I make my next trip to the Temple I can finally meet you.

I am actually more interested in Robin Jr. He makes me laugh.

I think you mean Little Robin. Unless you really are interested in Robin Jr., in which case I'm intrigued, to say the least. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Little Robin (not Robin Jr. as dognut points out), is awesome. He is indeed hilarious.

                        Robin,

Did you hear about what caused this?

I wasn't aware of this. I'll ask LR if he heard anything about it at a school, or whether he can see the damage from his campus. We had a spate of car fires started by an arsonist a bit more than a week ago, and several of those spread to nearby buildings, but this makes no mention of that, so I doubt they are related. But it does look intentional. For the record, speaking on behalf of all of the findersons, we didn't light the fire.
