    Your Mom

    What makes her awesome?

    Mine:

Walks the walk in the biggest way possible in the charity and compassion that her religion teaches - at different points my parents quasi-adopted four different Asian children who came to live with our family, three of them now call my Mom "Mom" and the depth of their gratitude is tribute to my parents' goodness. This was in addition to raising six kids of her own.

She's a gifted, nationally known artist who's work you can find at http://margotschulzke.com - one of my several favs is here http://margotschulzke.com/gallery_city/source/02.htm ... she's always encourage her kids to pursue things the things that they are passionate about.

She, with my dad, fostered a real love of knowledge, books and the exploration of ideas and I'll always be grateful for that.

But mainly my Mom kicks ass just by virtue of being an involved, aware, patient, loving parent who always went and still goes the distance for her kids even when it's really not convenient.

    I feel pretty lucky.

Happy Mom's day, Mom. Not that you read CUF but ya know... in case you stop by.

I thought this was going to be a thread about "Your Mom" jokes.
There's no such thing as luck, only drunken invincibility. Make it happen.

My dad never provided for the family, so my mom worked full time. She does to this day. It broke her heart to go to work everyday when all she wanted to do was stay at home with her kids, but she did what was needed to keep the household running.

My mom who was thrust into the work force at nearly 50 when my parents divorced. She worked double shifts, weekends, early mornings whatever she could to keep us in our house and have food on the table. I have never known anyone that works as hard as my mom.

My mom was/is great, but passed away nearly ten years ago. So today, I'm focusing on the mother of my kids. CUFfers know what I think of my wife, so I'll just note that her kids revere her as well. Here's a blogpost from our oldest that's a sample of what my kids think of Mrs. PAC.

PAC this is a very cool post. Thanks for sharing.

I was drawn back to this thread bc my Mom is had a double knee replacement today. One sounds hellish two I can't fathom.

One of the things I love most about my mom is the way she used to care for us when we were sick. She would stay in our rooms, and rub our hands and/or rock us, sing to us, dote on us. As I got older, if I couldn't sleep due to being ill, we'd play chess. I'm no good, but she would often let me win, and those are some great memories.

Loving my mom unconditionally has often been a chore, especially when you throw in the LDS dynamic. As ann exmo who cheated on my dad, I felt a lot of inward resentment toward her for many years. Finally, I just let it all go and saw my mom for all of the great things she is/was, and not for her faults or omissions. It was a great thing to feel like I could simply love my mom and not worry about religious affiliation, past transgressions, etc. It is one of the unfortunate, unintentional aspects of Church, IMO--that we often allow religion to get in the way of family members who no longer believe as we do.

I clicked on the links in your initial post and was pleasantly surprised at the lack of Mormon kitsch. Although I was a little disappointed in the lack of historical political figures with disapproving gazes in her work.

                  I like her work.

                      I'm glad.

BTW, it's largely my Mom's influence - and raging distaste for Kinkade - that prompted this thread some time ago

where I notice you also commented. You like the art threads.
