    Jury Duty summons for me

I am supposed to call in Thursday night to see if I have to go in Friday.

What are the odds I will have to go in? Aren't judges and lawyers golfing on Friday?

If I tell them it would be hard for me to convict a mormon, will I be dismissed?

Isn't jury duty a badge of honor among the more geriatric set?

How I got out of Jury Duty: I wrote a letter to the court citing my numerous traffic violations, and my general hatred for all things policemen. I used strong and uneducated language, and told them I would not be a good juror as I would vote not guilty even if I thought he was. I got a letter telling me I was excused.

My sister was on the Jury of a serial killer and she spent 6 weeks in trial. Eventually they convicted and he got life+200. She loved it, and the process.

Would you rather I be cloying?

I have forgotten what that meant and I am not looking it up. Memory loss is common among geriatrics. :moon:

How much of this is true? If your answer is anything more than "none," my follow up questions is: What's wrong with you?

I have never received notice of jury duty.

The last time I was on jury duty it was for a misdemeanor DWI charge. I was juror number #3 so there was a good chance that I should have been selected. The prosecutor ask the jury if we thought the current DWI laws were fair or if they should be changed. Most of my fellow jurors raised their hands indicating the laws were fair. Two of us raised our hands indicating they should be changed. The prosecutor then called on me to explain how the laws should be changed.

I told him that I thought that the pentalty for refusing a breathalyzer test should be more than just relatively short driver's license suspension. Then I explained my reasoning. Most people in the state of Texas that are pulled over for DWI will refuse the breathalyzer because of the advice given to them from their friends. If the defendant did blow into the machine and it measured a 0.08 blood alcohol level or higher then the defense attorney's argument is reduced from trying to raise a reasonable doubt about the field sobriety test results to questioning the accuracy of the breathalyzer. If the defendant's breathalyzer results were on or just over the 0.08 mark then the defense attorney might have a case if the machine had not been recently calibrated. Putting my self in the defendant's seat I said if I had been pulled over and blown a 0.08+ into a breathalyzer I would then ask for my right to have an independent blood test done which is far more accurate. If I still measured 0.08+ then I would have plead guilty and not wasted the court's and the jury's time. I concluded by saying that the driver's license suspension for refusing a breathalyzer test, therefore, should be years, and not just a few months, to encourage more people to just plead guilty when they know they had broken the law.

After delivering this discourse and getting a few "yeah's" from my fellow jurors I glanced over to the defense attorney's table. The defendant had a look of horror on his face and his attorney was looking at everyone's face except for mine. During the rest of the jury questioning the defense attorney completely ignored me. I was dismissed and on the way out the prosecutor shook my hand and gave me a nice smile.

Let me parcel this for you, after all, the complexity of clackamascoug, and his truthful anonymity is often confusing to ultimate truth seekers.

It's true a letter was sent. It's true I've had a dozen or more tickets in the last 20 years. It's true that I am not a fan of policemen/cops or most abusers of authority. It's true that I did not want to serve on a Jury, and expressed my particular negative view of law enforcement in that letter. It's true that they did send me back a letter excusing me from from jury duty. Because I did not serve on a jury I'm not sure if I bluffed, or was telling the truth regarding my penchant for voting "not guilty."

Some view jury duty as a hallmark moment in citizenry. I don't. I view jury duty in the same realm as I would of volunteering for janitorial service during the county fair. To this end I begged out of service. To be fair, would you really want a guy like me to be on your jury? I mostly did the fellow jurors and the poor criminal sap a favor. Did I mention I dislike policemen, and policewomen.

Regarding your follow-up question, "Whats wrong with you?" Out of a 100 points of personality, about 80 of mine are good, 10 are suspect, and 10 are very deep and disturbed. Might have something to do with my childhood. Let's just say I may need the Saviors Atonement more than you, and leave it at that.

Do you wear an American Flag on your suit coat, and why the condescension?

You use such pretty words. Words that are evocative but have fallen from popular use. So when you use them, I am reminded of a good friend.

I loved jury duty, but then I used it as an outlet for outrageous exhibitionism, going in punk drag, with a skirt and gobs of makeup and a green/purple mohawk. Turned out no one wanted to be jury foreman, so I did it, and it was a good experience. Our case was a mild one concerning someone falling off a ladder or some such thing. On my last day, however, we were being chosen for a case of double homicide, and that sent shivers up my spine, and I was glad that I was going away.

You take such pretty photographs, photos that make me nostalgic for times and places I have never inhabited. So, when you share them, I wish we were real-life good friends, and that our families could hang out together.
