  • Ricks Y of I Presidents how would you rate them.

Thomas Ricks got the school were it was. If it wasn't for him there would be no Ricks College or BYUIDAHO today. It could of been just another country school that closed down when Madison Public Schools Opened. Why I was not too fond of the Name Change though more people know who Brigham Young is than Thomas Ricks.

I heard many times the story of how Jacop Spori took a job on the railroad to keep the school open. Hear it everytime the call asking for donations. Story is overrated. He left for good after Three years because he could not make ends meet as a principal. Went on mission and brough back great folklore about a Catholic Priest prophecying of restoration. I broadcast from high atop building named after him. Worked hard for school but was overrated I think.

The ones between him and Marion's Dad don't know much about them. Struggle to keep school open I am sure.

George Romney did good jop for the time. Ricks almost closed. Arizona and Utah took all the churchs community colleges, but Idaho said no way. Ricks Choir sang at Conference than it was David O McKay I think that said lets not give Ricks to anyone again.

John L Clarke presided over some turbulent times. Trying to move the school to IF until he oversaw three new buildings in Rexburg. Going from 4 back to a 2 year school. He did a good job of getting Ricks were it was.

Hal Eyring had a great job as business proffeser at Stanford took the job at Ricks when it was podunk Junior College. At that time I think most students were from the Western part of the United States it was not that well known. He did a decent job there. Became Commisioner of education after that.

Bruce Hafen as far as I know did ok job. Got Viking Stadium up and running. Too bad an intercollegiate football game is not played there. Was decent.

Joe Christensen didn't serve very long. Served in Centennial and Ricks was still recruiting before there cap. Don't know much about him.

Steve Bennion was there when I was. Real personable. Remembered names real easy and people said great to talk too.

David Bednar who is now apostle people said he was more business type but not near as outgoing. Some talked to him and said he was nice. Pleasent to visit with just one you had to do more talking to start conversation than he did.

Kim Clark how is he? I read devotionals and books were he talked about his kids transgressions. A good businessman and Proffeser how will he do for the School? Some people say he is strange. I am not sure though. May be great president and great guy.

How would you rate the Ricks and now Y of I Presidents. Dave did a good job of helping Ricks become a Four year School. While he was at the helm I think.

          From Wikipedia...

In May 2010 Gilbert was appointed president of the Deseret News.[3] He did not replace Jim Wall the publisher or Joseph A. Cannon the editor, but fills a new role in the organization.

In August 2010, with Gilbert at the helm, the Deseret News laid off 43 percent of its workforce.[4]

Gilbert unveiled a set of six themes that would guide the paper's coverage—previously distinguished by its lack of oversight from the LDS Church and a strict devotion to impartiality—from that time forward: 1. The Family, 2. Financial Responsibility, 3. Excellence in Education, 4. Care for the Needy, 5. Values in Media, and 6. Faith in the Community.

Using his theory of "disruption" economics, Gilbert has tried to pinpoint the cost of each story and achieve a more cost-effective story output.[5]

Under Gilbert, the Deseret News has reported a boost in all aspects of its circulation,[7] but some of its numbers have been disproved by The Salt Lake Tribune and Salt Lake City Weekly.[8]

My bet is he's Provo bound. I'm sure he's said and done things in Rexburg that make him a less attractive candidate than he used to be. That said, he was dean of HBS.

He turns 66 this year so given his age will probably just retire. Doubt he will called to be Ga now. May do some work for the church in things like hosting and the like.

Didn't realize he was that old. Yeah. I'm sure he sits on a few boards and will consult, so why not ride into the sunset?

Yeah, but he could be prophet. That's almost as good.

No thanks. There would be some benefits because my brother recently moved to Rexburg and it would be neat that everywhere he went people would ask if we were related and he would have to say "Yes, that's my little brother." I imagine that would annoy him after a while, so there's that, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be worth it even with that (no offense RCV).

I am open to being named president of regular BYU, though.

Oh, and to answer the original question from the title of the thread:

                          1. Henry Eyring
                          2. Kim Clark
                          3. D-Bed
                          4. New guy who Lebowski linked to
Last Place: Guy who was president and let them take away BYU's feeder program

I think those are the only ones I know.

the President had nothing to do with that decision made in Salt Lake. Hal was commissioner when that decision was made don,t know if he chose to change from intercollegiate sports to expanded or not. Bennion. And Bednar were the ones I had. Clark had the longest tenure since John L. Clarke Wilkinsons counterpart retired. He did at the sane time as Wilkonsin too.

Interesting trivia Three Ricks a Presidents with name of Clark 1st or last. At least two 1st ladies had 1st name Sue or Susan.
