    A car engine question

Help me understand this...I am looking at purchasing a Blazer or Bronco and the description of the engine and transmission was given like this:
    • 400 hp 450 ft/lb torque big block
    • edelbrock manifold
    • edelbrock 800 cfm carb
    • th3 50 w/ b and m shift kit and np205 t case (Transmission)

What are the benefits and/or the drawbacks of this setup? How bad is my gas mileage screwed but how good is this as an engine and transmission for this Blazer? Thoughts to all of you car stars?

You shouldn't be concerned about fuel mileage in a set up like this. If you are...you are effed my friend. Depending on wheel size and what year Blazer, I would guess you are looking around 8-10 mpg. However, with the larger carb. you are sucking more fuel to feed the beast. Probably closer to 7-8 mpg IRL driving. Best case senario.

Shift kits tend to be hard on a transmission but it seems this one is built for it. The engine is most likely the 454 (I am not a big Chevy guy so I could be wrong, although I don't think I am). It has good power but it all depends on how it is geared.

Interesting information. So, it sounds like this guy built this engine and transmission to be badass, but not efficient. Will this setup be noticeably louder and stronger than a 350 engine and transmission?

You are correct, it is a 454. Just by reading it all, do you think that transmission will play nicely with that engine for the next 40K miles?

        Big Block is the 454.
7-8 mpg is what to expect.
Tranny should be good for 50K+
