personally I would have gone with an ACOG or an AimPoint. Those EOTech's have issues holding zero, and coming loose.

This actually has me thinking. My stock answer on the gun control issue used to be "unless you have a tank division, you aren't going to stop the government from oppressing you so what difference does having your gun make?" But having watched a relatively affective insurgency in the middle east for the last seven years by a much smaller population with fewer guns, I'm not convinced that our armed forces could control an sizable part of this country if it were in open rebellion and fighting a guerilla war. I know it is loony toons, just a tought exercise.

It is very hard to win a war over a people who don't want to be conquered. It's hard to win, period, but when the average person prefer to take up arms than submit, there really is no victory to be had.

I'm cultivating a new idea on the American Civil War, by the way. It seems that among the reasons the South lost is the fact that the casus belli, slavery, appealed mostly to the upper crust of society. Defense of hearth and home, honor, et al took the South to the brink of victory, but at the end of the day, for most Southern men, it was not their war. Hence, when the armies were beaten in the field, those who were no friends to slavery gave up the fight instead of heading to the hills. Chief among these is Robert E. Lee himself. Given the choice between guerrilla war and that most unappealing prospect of surrender, Lee quit.

If the citizens are armed, the government's ability to compel them absent their consent will be constrained. That comes with a cost, and the debate on whether that cost is worth it, or how to limit it if it is, is a discussion that needs to happen, but it goes without saying that power, even in a governmental sense, is where the guns are.

Umm -Who wouldn't want an ACOG? But a good ACOG costs 3X as much as an EOtech.
