Are you racist but just don't know it?

I don't know if Harvard's IAT test has been discussed here. I just took the race IAT test and this was my result

You have completed the African American - European American IAT.
    Your Result
Your data suggest a strong automatic preference for African American compared to European American.

Interesting. I guess I prefer black people. It is supposed to measure your subconscious racial preference. Conscious action can overcome much of this subconscious racial preference, however this is still still a huge issue since so much of our decisions and behavior are influenced by unconscious preferences. Interestingly enough, black people also find it easier to associate white with good.

if you want to take the test the link is here:

I think the test makes you too self-conscious and so your answers will steer towards either a neutral PC position or causes the pendulum to swing the other direction as over-compensation.

Note: The use of "you" and "your" are talking about respondents in general and not anyone specifically on this board.

10 years of data suggest that most still have a white preference even after this potential over-compensation.

I didn't bother taking because it was a flawed poll. I'm just following your lead and your abstention of Cowboy's BOM poll.

isn't this test a little biased due to conditioning? I mean the first 4 or 5 rounds pair light faces with "good" and dark faces with "bad" and then switch them up on you. I wonder how the results would change if you started with good and dark together for 5 rounds.

Was that 10 years of data accumulated through administering tests over the internet where the respondents knew ahead of time exactly what it was the researchers were trying to measure?

another racist! Honestly I don't know. Maybe the people at Harvard didn't think about that.

1 Could the result be a function of the order in which I did the two parts? I had to group one category together with pleasant words first. I then found it difficult when I later had to group the other category with pleasant words.

Answer: The order in which tests are administered does make a difference to the overall result in some tests. However, the difference is small and recent changes to the test have sharply reduced the influence of order. Because of this order effect, the orders used for IATs presented on this website are assigned at random. For any data we present, we are careful to be sure that half the test-takers got the A then B order and the other half got the B then A order. With the revised task design, the order has only a minimal influence on task performance. If you want to check whether the order made a difference for you, you can take the test again and complete it if you get assigned to the reverse order. If you do take the test twice in different orders and get different outcomes, the best estimate of your result is intermediate between the two. For more information about the order effect, see this paper (Nosek, Greenwald, & Banaji, in press).

Whew! Since I was only slightly racist, I'm going to to conclude that if I had received the dark faces first I would have a slight preference for dark skinned people.

I guess that means that I can be happy and ask for high fives, but I will probably be uncoordinated in giving them.

PS I was considering classifying "pleasure" as a bad thing, but then I remembered what Satan taught me!

I have a strong preference to white people apparently, although frankly I think you could also argue that maybe I'm just not all that coordinated.
