Upgraded to the Catalina OS on my macbook and it bricked it. Now I am having to do a restore of the complete system from Time Machine. Should take a day or so. Luckily I have a windows machine to use in the meantime.

Talked to the computer support staff and they said it is happening all over. They are frantically telling everyone not to upgrade. Nice job, Apple.

At the large organization where I work. This OS has been a disaster for quite a few people. They sent out an email warning people not to install.

I also called Apple Tech Support. They tried to fix it but could not.

I googled the problem I was having and it appears it was a common problem with the beta. Looks like they took it out of beta too soon.

Catalina Island was discovered on October 7, 1542, but I am sure this had nothing to do with the release date of Catalina.

The largest problem with Catalina that most folks are having is that it doesn't support their old 32-bit 3rd party apps. The other thing is that it switches to a new filesystem from the 30 year old HFS+ to the new APFS. APFS was optional before with High Sierra, etc. APFS is the future and works much better with modern hardware. The other big change is the additional security added to protect you from all your malware. For example, the system partition is now a read-only. This was my biggest gripe so I learned quickly how to disable that.

After installing, I would get the black screen of death 11-12 minutes after rebooting. Like clockwork. Had nothing to do with apps. You could leave it sitting at the login screen and would still happen.

I am guessing you have like a 5TB flash drive in that MacBook Pro of yours given how you roll... It can take a while for it to convert your filesystem with all those files from HFS+ to APFS. Maybe you didn't give it enough time.

You should just take your MacBook Pro to the Apple Store and let them upgrade it properly for you. If you buy a new MacBook Pro I bet they won't even charge you.

Time machine restore seems to have worked. Back to a stable, working OS. Just cost me two days. Grrr....
