Heck, when people say Android phone, I don't even know what that means.

I just wish someone would give one of their old phones to you or Space Ghost. Hopefully by the year 2015, at least one of you will have a phone that group texts, and is able to look at attachments the same day they're sent.

It's not going to be me. I just don't give enough of a shit about phones to get anything new. Notice that group texting and looking at attachments was not on my list.

I read recently that Samsung is suffering financially because smart phones have gotten to the point where it is tough to come up with a new technological advance that warrants trading in your old phone or switching from another type to get a new one. Screen size, image quality, processor speed, camera quality, etc. have all pretty much plateaued. Our family is about 50/50 iphone/samsung and there isn't really much difference. Phones are just a commodity now. It is like choosing between chocolate and vanilla ice cream. Who cares?

That's interesting. I wonder what percentage of their sales comes from smart phones. I just read that iPhones comprise over half of Apple's revenue. I would have thought that Samsung might weather a downturn in smart phone sales better than Apple because I assume they are more diversified. But I'm just guessing.

Except that it is. Its the same with PC manufacturers vs. Macs. No one is claiming people are dissatisfied with Windows because they bought a Dell once and now own an HP.

I'm pretty much on the same page here. I have a nephew that is hardcore Android/anti-iphone, and it's to the point where he's a dick on fb about it. I have my preferences, but I have never taken to proselytizing on social media about it.

I just realized that mpfunk and junkie might be right about hating iPhone. All of a sudden I have a bunch of songs from U2 on my phone. I want to put something on their phones that says "Hi, if I wanted U2 I would have placed it on my phone. TIA".

I'd just like to point out that I'm not an Android fanboy. If Apple made a comparable product at a comparable price, I would absolutely consider Apple. However, I don't see what you are getting for the premium that you are paying. The better build quality and aesthetics certainly does not justify the extra price.

iOS is fantastic in a lot of ways and better in a lot ways than Android, but it also has some pretty big disadvantages. In the past, I haven't bought an Apple device because of screen size, no expandable memory, locked down OS without the ability to customize, and price. Apple has finally addressed the screen size issue, but they did so while maintaining that stupid large round physical button.
