I just went to return a DVD I've had for 3 days to redbox, but redbox would accept it! It said it was "full." So I drove to another redbox, and it too was full. So I rented another movie, just to make space to return the first movie.

That sucks for you guys. I have never had any issue with Redbox. And I have probably rented 50+ DVDs from them over the last 2 years.
I use rebox all the time. This is the first time I've ever had any problem (other than the box not having the movie I wanted). I'm not even sure its a problem. I am, however, annoyed that this is even an issue. Can you imagine if this happened at Blockbuster? "I'm sorry, we can't take that back today, but you're going to have to keep paying for it until we free up some space."

I'll bet my left toe that if you let them know what happened they'll waive the extra charge and probably give you a free rental.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

They do throw out free rentals all the time. The ironic thing is that the DVD they wouldn't let me return was a free rental (initially - then I gave them 2 extra dollars to let it sit on my counter).

I love that there are coupon codes all the time. I get a text every Monday with one. I usually search online for a couple and write them down and keep it in my wallet or save some codes in my phone. I also like to reserve new releases online and pick them up. I love Redbox.
You're going about movie rentals the wrong way. I find it's better to buy them from Costco, watch them a couple times, and then take them back when I have no more use for them. Sometimes my kids scratch them up before I take them back, but that only helps my cause to get a refund.
I love redbox. We have probably 15 redbox locations within 8 miles of my house. I have only had the "This redbox is full" problem once and never had an unplayable disc. Long live Redbox!

Sigh.
