Need help with my (97 Jeep):

So, my Jeep has been acting up. I took it to the shop and figured it was my spark plugs that were bad and causing the engine to miss-fire. So we got that fixed. The car continues to sputter and then after running for about 5 to 10 minutes it works fine.

But it sputters and acts like the transmission is not engaging or the gas is not getting to the engine (Possible bad gas or water in the line or something. I don't know)..

I had them look at it again and they could not find anything wrong and hooked it up to the machine and got no signs electronically..

Any help on figuring out what this is and how to fix it?? Thanks. I am praying it isn't the transmission going out. It has also showed signs of reving higher then normal to get it to shift from 2nd to 3rd (Automatic).. But after it warms up it seems to do better.

I am looking to get the transmission flushed and if that doesn't solve the problem I may have to get a new car.. But I'd really like to not go down that route..

    Thanks for your help..

Before, in the other forum, I was going to agree with junkie and say it could be a fuel filter. But now that I am looking at your problem in this forum, I'm thinking it might be sticky valves?

I put some Injector Cleanign Fluid and Gas Dry stuff in my tank . I am hoping this will help resovle it..

I am a little discourage that the Mechanic did not figure that out.. Should I be concerned??

I assume when the plugs were changed that the mechanic checked to make sure you were getting a strong spark? If it is not a spark/timing issue than the next thing to check is fuel. Maybe a fuel pressure regulator/fuel filter/pump?

97 jeep you say? Depending on how many miles are on it, I'd say your fuel pump is on its way out. Very common on that model.

In addition, when I let off the gas it seems to idle fine coasting and does not die.. Does this negate it being the fuel pump?
