      Looks like a fun project!

      Is this something you have to deal with when you have a septic tank? I've always been on city sewer so I've never seen something like that.

              They wanted to charge about $950 (after discounts, of course).

                  It's what you have to do with if you have any drains under the grade of the sewer - a bathroom or kitchen in the basement for instance. There's a small tank (~50 gallons?) that collects stuff, and a pump that pushes it up to the grade of the sewer line to get it out of the house. It's called an ejector pit...

                              While not as dirty or dirt cheap as the good doctors recent project, I had my hot water heater spring a leak yesterday. Rather than pay the $1500 ($1500!!!) that the plumber quoted us for replacement, I decided to give it a go myself.

                              It was surprisingly easy, once I got the old beast unhooked and off of the stand in my garage.

                              So I was able to escape for just under $500 and 3 hours of work. That makes me worth $333 per hour! Take that, overpriced plumbing contractor!!!

                                  My dad once did the same thing. Later, he found out he damaged an element in the process. How did he find this out? The water heater went bad after about a year. Also, it wasn't warrantied because it hadn't been installed by a professional.

                                  Hope you didn't damage an element!

                                      Me too. I don't understand those warranty stipulations. Replacing those things isn't rocket science. Its basically two connections for the water, one for the gas and some wall brackets. So easy a caveman can do it.

                                          And...it flooded again today. I hadn't used any plumbing in the basement in weeks, so hard sediment formed and clogged the pump. All I did was bang on it a little and it started right back up.

                                          Now, I gotta go clean the sewer water out of the basement.

                                                      I'll be putting a sump pump in our basement this spring. It's amazing how similar the two system's components are.
