So basically, your Women's studies minor is now administered by the home-ec department. Awesome.

Has anyone taken a Women's Studies class at BYU? I took a philosophies of feminism class at the U and it was about, well, feminism. What is Women's studies at BYU anyway? Something more than handicrafts?

Come on UD you are resorting to a little silly Hyperbole here. This is probably a bad PR move by BYU but it is hard to imagine it is much more than that. I doubt the minor will be affected very much and honestly doubt the instititue was responsible for more than 20,000 of research dollars a year (that was my reading of the desnews article anyway). And it is not like those research dollars will completely disappear. Yes, maybe they will be less focused on research that focuses on woman but even that it not clear.

Also, the head of the minor appears to be in the Sociology department.

My wife took one or maybe two of those classes. Said the instructor(s) she had were pretty hardcore feminist types. Lots of man haters in the classes too. Of course, BYU is the only place she has gone to school, so the point of comparison is not all that strong.

Not funny but also not true. Also, I think the Ute graduate smack of BYU is in general lame. Every university has some weirdnesss ... BYU is a bit worse than normal but probably not in the way people think.

Utah is weird too ... All Ute graduates should be embarressed by their econ department. In fact the state of your econ department is more embarassing than just about anything I can think of for BYU. I like Utah's finance department though.

Sigh. I guess this is the wrong audience. Of course they all have funny things about them. This is one of them!

By the way, I am genuinely ignorant about the econ dept., other than that when I was there it was full of Marxists which I always thought was pretty funny.
