Need help in proper use of word "entitle"

If I were to say, I pay my employees a lot of money and I expect them to work very hard for the company.

Am I stating an expression of "entitlement" or saying I am entitled?

I think expectation is a better term, but if pressed I'd use entitled.

And entitlement is generally perceived as being granted and not earned, "entitled to" suggest something that is earned (or paid for in your example.)

I agree with what you are saying. I wasn't sure though and thus looking for "board wisdom."
