    Moving back to XP

After battling an increasingly unstable Vista these last six months or so I've decided to wipe the slate clean and reload with XP. Any advice or words of warning ahead of my return to the baby soft embrace of Windows XP?

And before any of you Steve Jobs fellators pipe up: Macs suck, Iphones are overhyped pieces of crap and Ipods are the ultimate cause of our demise as a nation.
There's no such thing as luck, only drunken invincibility. Make it happen.

If you wait just a bit longer, you can upgrade to Windows 7 (or whatever they are calling it). Supposedly it works.

My friend's job is in programming and networking, and he's been running a free beta version of Windows 7 Black for the past several months. Apparently the word in the industry is that 7 fixes everything that people hated about Vista, and is night and day better than XP in terms of speed, logistics, the whole enchilada.

That being said, if 7 is all that it's cracked up to be, Microsoft will stop supporting XP sometime around the end of 2010. New software and security updates will only be given to Vista and 7.

Microsoft initially intended to stop supporting XP in 2008 but the backlash against Vista was so immense that instead, they ended up offering free "downgrades" to XP to those who purchased new systems that came with Vista.

As for 7, it began being shipped to distributors in July, is already sitting in every electronics store's stockrooms and will hit the shelves next week, on the 22nd.

I second the switch to windows 7.
I was a computer tech for a long time and windows 7 is the best OS I've used so far (for normal home/business computing stuff).

I've been using the release candidate for a few months and have experienced ZERO problems. It has some pretty cool new features and fewer of the annoyances that came w/ vista.

Wow, reviewing my comment makes it seem like I was suggesting that the idea of switching to Linux disrespects this community. Obviously I was just referring to Ubuntu, not Linux as a whole.

For the record I love Ubuntu. I'd use it more if I could get my audio recording interfaces to work correctly.

I've been running Windows 7 RC for several months and it works great. Much faster than Vista or XP and the user experience is fantastic. We will see how it works with third party drivers etc. but as of now my 7 macine has never crashed.

Wait until next week and upgrade to 7.

Ubuntu means, humanity towards others. Sad that you hate someone who loves that.

Another vote for Windows 7. I have it on my home desktop and am in the process of switching over on my laptop.

I have the Studio edition. Other than not being able to get my Pro Tools or EMU audio interfaces working correctly (someone needs to write the drivers) it works like a charm. Very fast and the programs are powerful.

So why does Ubuntu disprespect this community? What am I missing?
